Spring is here! Though some parts of the country haven't gotten the memo. In Southern California we've been shaking and baking. Whether you're knee deep in snow or cranking up your AC, both extremes are a good reminder to all of us to review our emergency plans.
Have You Heard the Latest on KidneyTalk?
Be App Savvy: Track and Plan Your Way to Healthy Meals
You probably have a special calendar or system for ordering and taking medications, and keeping track of medical appointments. But did you know about the apps and tools that are out there to help people follow a renal diet? Learn about the difference between "trackers" and "planners", and what you should look for when picking out one of these tools. Sara Carlson, RD, Manager at DaVita.com Nutrition, discusses how these tools can help you prepare meals and make healthy choices that work for you.

Spread Awareness
April is Organ Donation Month
There are activities going on all over the country. How will you spread awareness about the need for organ donors?

Here are some suggestions:
  • Join our team and help us support the Donate Life Run/Walk in Fullerton, California

But most important of all, share your story. It's the human connection that helps people understand.

A New Way To Create Awareness

Have you been thinking about what you can make for the Shine a Light campaign?

The lamp on the left was made by Robert Ziegler, a kidney recipient and now pin up fan who got over his fear of needles.

What You Can Do

Find a lamp, decorate it with your own personal artistic style and add a name to tell a story. Send RSN a picture of your creation at [email protected] with text of story and we will share. Post your photo(s) on your social media to help "Shine a Light" on Kidney Disease. Use #shinealightkidney on Twitter and tag us @renalsupportnetwork on Facebook. We can't wait to see your designs!

I hope my friends in Southern California will join me for the Donate Life walk and start thinking about spreading awareness about organ donation. There are over 121,000 people waiting for a transplant.

I look forward to seeing you on Facebook. Every Thursday we're doing "tbt", if you have an old picture send it to us so we can share your story.

Sincerely,
