October 30, 2013
Greetings!

TopWe are busy preparing for RSN's Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament and Holiday HOPEfest Boutique this Saturday. These last few weeks I have been sharing my story to help promote the events and have met so many people who have a connection to chronic kidney disease and want to help. By telling my story and advocating for others I have met the most amazing people.  It is rewarding to engage with your local community.
Have You Heard the Latest on KidneyTalk?

We hear a lot in the news about bacteria and viruses and the problems they cause. Antibiotics are becoming resistant to bacteria, which can mean that there is no treatment. Preventing an infection in the dialysis unit is extremely important (lifesaving), and everyone must do his or her part to make this happen. Kerri Holloway, RN, is in charge of Corporate Infection Control for Fresenius Medical Care. As a former dialysis nurse and the wife of a man who was on dialysis until he received a transplant, she takes her job very seriously. Kerri discusses with me all the things you can do and look for to prevent an infection, especially in the dialysis unit. Listen Now

A Very Special Honor at ASN
I'm honored to announce that I will be receiving the President's Medal on November 7th during the Plenary Session of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) meeting in Atlanta.

There is an article about it in the October issue of ASN's Kidney News magazine. You can read the article here.

To celebrate RSN's 20th Anniversary we've made a video to tell my story.

Medicare Open Enrollment - Not to Be Confused with the Healthcare Exchanges

You can now review, compare and join a 2014 plan through December 7, 2013. You can also make changes to your current plan.

I hope to see you this weekend at the YWCA or next week at the ASN meeting in Atlanta.

To think a couple years back my life was chaotic with health issues. But, once again, I am "Beating the Odds" and you can too!

Sincerely,

Lori Hartwell
