With the celebration of Mother's Day
not far behind us, some of us may still be
dealing with our indulgences that have left us feeling bloated, sluggish and uncomfortable.

This could be described as anything from
a stomach that is hard and distended to one that is making noise, or experiencing cramps, nausea, or abnormal elimination patterns.

Calorie-rich foods, sweet treats and alcohol are the major culprits to disrupting an otherwise healthy belly
(if you experience chronic bloating,
you may need to consult with
a holistic practitioner for solutions)

But before you turn to the drugstore for a quick fix, try these tips first and see just how powerful foods can be to act as healers.

TIPS TO HELP HEAL BELLY BLOAT:

1. Probiotic Foods will help restore and support healthy gut bacteria: saurkraut, miso paste, kimchi, non-dairy kefir, kombucha, pickles, micro algae, sourdough bread.
TIP: these foods should all be found in the refrigerator section, not on the shelves: they contain live enzymes and therefore need to be kept cold to maintain the integrity of their nutrition.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar, with the Mother. I favor Braggs because it is raw, organic, unfiltered, unpasteurized, non-GMO, Gluten free.  Naturally cleansing and healing, a mere tablespoon or two is all you need before, during or after a meal.
TIP: this can also be used as a regular base ingredient for salad dressings. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, a tablespoon of cider a day can keep the bloat away.

3. Ginger helps stimulate digestion by speeding up the movement of food from the stomach into the intestines. Ginger has been shown to relax the intestinal tract, reduce gas, and help with nausea.
TIP: make tea using ginger root, let simmer for about 15-20 minutes before drinking.  You could also grate or juice fresh ginger root right into your water base.

4. Fennel Seeds
have been used to treat digestive disorders for centuries. They help soothe the digestive tract, relieve intestinal cramps, and help with waste elimination.
TIP: keep whole seeds in a little glass jar in your purse or pocket, and chew on them when you are out and feel bloating or discomfort coming on. When at home, ground up a teaspoon and add to hot water, along with some fresh ginger and sip at your pleasure.
