Volunteer for Old-Fashioned Fun on July 4th
Avery House July 4th
Volunteers at the kids' craft booth make July 4th fun!
Each year, PLF hosts a July 4th celebration for the community. This free event, held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Avery House lawn, coincides with the City of Fort Collins July 4th Parade that finishes in front of the Avery House at 328 W. Mountain Ave.

This year, the Bluegrass Patriots will again perform at the event. Food trucks Mac'N and Gunter's Bavarian Grill will be onsite selling delicious summertime fare. While enjoying the music and food, play old-fashioned games such as croquet and bean bag toss; make kids' crafts; dress up in Victorian clothes from "Grandma's Attic"; purchase lemonade, popcorn, and July 4th trinkets at old-fashioned prices; and tour the Avery House.

Want to be more involved in the event? We're recruiting volunteers! You can help with kids' crafts and games, be an Avery House docent, work the trinkets and popcorn booths, or help with setup and teardown; whatever your interest or skill, we can find a place for your helping hands and heart. Contact us at [email protected] or (970) 221-0533.

Karol Harding Wins Avery Guild Appreciation Award
Karol Harding (l.) stands with PLF board member Kimberly Miller
Longtime Avery House docent and Avery Guild member Karol Harding is on a roll. Last month's issue of this newsletter announced her win in a national contest for historic-costume design. Harding designed and sewed a stunning 1895 silk blouse waist.

Harding's dedication and skill were again recognized  when the Avery Guild presented her with its John Power Appreciation Award in May. The Avery Guild is an auxiliary of PLF and oversees activities at the Avery House. Harding has been a member of the Guild for many years, and in addition to being a docent for the house, she serves on the Guild's costume committee.

Harding has also presented lectures about historic lace at the Avery House, and she manages the Avery House's Grandma's Attic children's dress-up activity. Harding has created an extensive collection of vintage-style clothing for Grandma's Attic.

PLF congratulates Harding and extends a heartfelt thank you to her for her years of outstanding service to the Avery House.
