5 Most Nutritious Vegetables For Prepper Families  by Marjory Wildcraft
This is the time of year you start getting seed catalogs in the mail.  As you start to plan ahead for the spring, Here are five of my personal favorite garden varieties to grow.  I've chosen these for their great nutrition, easiness to grow, and as you'll see - because I can get the kids to eat them.

Broccoli: This is often called the 'super vegetable'.  Especially in vitamin C, but also the B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium.  And yes, I am partial to the common Di Cissio variety for the home garden because you can get more than one with the side shoots.  Easy to grow.  A general tip on getting kids to eat vegetables, and especially broccoli - smother it with a  cheese sauce.  Throw in some bacon bits if you want to make it completely irresistible.

Peas:  Sugar snap peas are like candy.  I like both the Oregon and Mammoth Melting Sugar,  Peas are rich in vitamin C, but also vitamin K and manganese.  The best reason of all to grow these is my kids treat my yard like a snack bar when the peas are growing!  I've almost had to break up fights over who gets the peas - one of the few arguments I loved.

Leafy greens:  OK, I couldn't decide which is better - kale, spinach, lettuce, chard...  I love the Lacinto kale and American spinach varieties.  Spinach, of course is rich in iron and has been called "the women's vegetable" as women usually need more iron than men.

Lima Beans; King of the Pole Lima Beans are easy to grow and for home gardeners where space can be at a premium, I love the pole beans that can go up, and produce lots of beans with little ground space.  Lima's are very rich in molybdenum, tryptophan, dietary fiber and manganese.  Love that buttery taste too.  Beans are an awesome staple.

Beets; Gosh, I love this nutritious multi-purpose plant.  I like to grow the Detroit Red variety.  You can eat both the root and the greens.  The beet root is high in iron, potassium, and vitamin C. The beet greens are high in iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and Vitamins A, B6, and C.  The thing I love about beet roots are its easy to get kids to eat them - even surly teenagers.  The secret?  Tell them their pee will turn red and they will goggle it up to see.

And I can't help myself with throwing in this last bonus plant.

Moringa:  This is actually a tree native to the the tropics or semi-tropics, and to effectively grow it you need to keep it indoors during the winter.  Its a perennial and easy to grow, aside from needing to be kept warm.  Every part of the tree is edible, medicinal, or useful.  The leaves are very rich in a diverse variety of nutrients - it is almost like a vegetable multivitamin.  I add a teaspoon of dried moringa leaf power into almost every soup or sauce to boost the overall nutrition for my family.  Moringa oleifera is the variety I grow.

Whats in my Backpack? by THENATURENURD
Being prepared doesn't always have to apply to natural or man-made disasters.  Being prepared should be a way of life no matter what you do.  If you are a hiker, hunter, fisherman, camper, etc.  You should always have a bag of goodies in your backpack or other pack, just in case things don't go as planned.  Each activity is different, but I will share what I carry in my backpack and who knows, it could get you out of a sticky situation in the Great Outdoors someday.

So why am I selling these domains?  It's to help pay for a very important trip that I am going on in March/April of this year.  Those who know me know that I am traveling to the Philippines for my wedding in April. Now, I've already got my wedding expenses covered, however, I'm doing more than just getting married on this trip.  While I am in the Philippines I will be spending a couple weeks to establish a Preppers Network in a community that is very near and dear to my heart.

In February of 2012 a devastating 6.8 Magnitude Earthquake struck the city of Gihulngan forever reshaping the community both physically and emotionally.  In the wake of the destruction, 52 people lost their lives and thousands were displaced from their homes.  To this day there are still many people without clean water and adequate shelter.

Because I have come to think of this place as my second home, I have made it my ambition to organize a Preppers group in the city to teach and share many of the survival, preparedness, and sustainable living techniques that we share right here on the APN. On this next trip I will be organizing a group and teaching how to build solar water stills to purify drinking water.  You can read about the Parabolic Solar cooker that we constructed on my last trip here.

When you purchase these domains you can know that the money will be spent establishing a prepper community in Guihulngan just as we have done with the APN.  Not only that, upon approval of your new website, the APN will work to help get you traffic and provide an advertising credit of $500 or more.

If you have questions regarding these domains and how the APN can help you build traffic to your site, then please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

Ladies, Here's another great way to help Guihulngan.
If you love AVON products then please support my friend Sally's Avon page.  20% of all sales will go to help in the fundraising efforts to repair the Levee along Southside Beach Road.  Read Details here

Easy Artisan Bread  by Deb at PreppinginParadise

Ingredients:
3 cups warm water
6 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp sea salt
1 1/2 tbsp instant yeast

I love bread.  Good bread.  Crisp crust on the outside and chewy inside.  But I don't like the additives in most bakery breads ... YUCK!  When I first found Jim Lahey's "No Knead Artisan Bread" recipe I was ecstatic!  Now I could make my own, but .... I often forgot to start the dough the day before I wanted to have the bread (I'm an old fart ... memory is an issue) and dumping that super soft dough into the hot pot was always a case of hit or miss (and missing was messy!) Company President Tom Sciacca sent us the following message:

.

"After a long period of time with our three main suppliers of paracord not being able to keep up with our needs, they are finally at the point of supplying us with regular shipments.  We now have a ton of American made paracord in stock and we have live inventory so if you can buy it, it ships!  I decided that we want to move a ton of paracord and what better way than to offer your readers an unprecedented 7% off coupon code "overstock" which kills our already low margins and our low shipping costs but with volume should make up for it.

Tom Sciacca, a former Marine and veteran of the 1991 Gulf War, launched CampingSurvival.com in 2002, and quickly earned a reputation as an online authority on camping and wilderness survival gear, creating a loyal following of customers.

  CollapseCollapse Medicine
Snakebite Survival by Nurse Amy

In a grid-down scenario, you will find yourself out in the woods a lot more frequently, gathering firewood, hunting, and foraging for edible wild plants.  As such, we will likely encounter a snake or two.  Most snakes aren't poisonous, but even non-venomous snake bites have potential for infection.

Poison is, perhaps, the wrong word to use here; venoms and poisons are not the same thing. Poisons are absorbed by the skin or digestive system, but venoms must enter the tissues or blood directly. Therefore, it is usually not dangerous to drink snake venom unless you have, say, a cut in your mouth (don't try it, though).  READ MORE
