I don't know about you, but I sometimes wish my first Color were different.
What??!! No seriously, I know that my Blue idealism constantly gets in the way of my own success, especially financial success.
So what is YOUR first Color? Yeah, yeah, you were pretty much born with that Color, and you know that it represents your core values and passions, but you also know -- down deep -- that those values and passions can create undesireable barriers to relationships and life goals.
To other people, my Blue looks impractical, too touchy-feely, and illogical. I would rather people see me as can-do, a team player, and utilitarian -- like ORANGE PEOPLE. And Orange is my 2nd Color, so I'm thinking won't 2015 be so much better if I strengthen and build upon my natural Orange strengths?
Does this make sense?
What is your second Color? Might building some of the strengths there help you accomplish more or be a "better" person this year?
I know it can work. When I went on diets in the past, my Blue "weaknesses" seemed to work entirely against dietary success. Blue people love other people so much that it's hard not to spend gobs of time eating huge meals with all those other people. The way I beat that was to go entirely Gold and Orange in my diet planning -- even though acting Gold and Orange felt hard. I used Gold apps on my iPhone like MyFitnessPal and Fitbit. Then I joined pure-Orange weight-loss competitions where the public humiliation would be enormous if I failed.
How to go about this? It's simple, really. Take a look at the lists of strengths for your 2nd and 3rd Colors. Pick one -- just one -- strength that will make a difference in your life if you build and leverage it. If you need Gold, for example, pick something like never being late again for a scheduled event. That simple decision and each simple act will deliver huge benefits -- not only from "being on time" all of a sudden, but you will find your self-image and your public image will actually roar with a new sense of responsibility that infects more areas of life than just showing up on time.
Let me repeat. Keep it simple. To overdo on "foreign" other-Color strengths will go the way of most New Years' resolutions unless you set yourself up for achievable success with small, simple goals. Even small steps of progress could deliver a huge payoff by the end of 2015.
Happy New Year, everybody!
