Greetings!

Last week, you sampled job interview questions from Green people, the so-called "Experts".

It's Gold Week this week -- and it's important to pay attention. As interviewers, Gold folks are "The Careful" ones. The Carefuls are nearly half the overall population and could be up to 90% of all job interviewers. Why? Because they actually like being supervisors and managers. Hiring and firing? Yes, they might even tell you point blank that they are the best at it.

MEANWHILE: Just for booking a regular Four Windows workshop in the next 60 days, somebody (of your choosing) in your organization will get a free weekend in Sedona next Spring Break.

Persuade a Gold Job Interviewer

  Gold Woman

Let me repeat from last week that if you think you should "just be yourself" in an interview, think again. Our own precious values and strengths are not shared by lots of people -- and I don't care how wonderful you think you are.

Here is what a job interviewer who happens to be a Careful Gold is looking for. Gold people care most about duty, procedures, protocol, and overall responsibility: as interviewers they are The Careful Ones. Odds are at least one person on the interview panel will a Careful One -- pretty much guaranteed.

1. Are you a reliable straight shooter, or are you too much "over the top"?

2. Do you think realistically and concretely?

3. Are you a proven, responsible hard worker?

4. What skills do you actually have?

5. What's your actual track record and have you won awards to prove it?

6. Can you be trusted to put your employer's interests above your own?

7. Are we (as a business) getting value for our dollar?

8. Are you sensitive to and caring about tradition, especially our corporate tradition?

9. Will you be helpful to our image?

10. Do you follow rules or does it look like you'll challenge them instead?

Four Types of Interviewers

The handy list above focused on Gold "Careful" interviewers. Last week, we focused on Green "Experts." In the next two weeks, you can expect to hear about the other two: The Impulsive Orange, and The Idealistic Blue.

The Impulsive. 30% of Interviewers.

1. Can you get your hands dirty?

2. Will I get fast action from you?

3. Can I let you run with the ball?

4. Can this interview be quick?

The Idealist. 15% of Interviewers.

1. How warm and friendly are you?

2. Do people come first?

3. Are everybody's ideas welcome?

4. Do you have integrity and do you believe in a business with integrity?

The Expert. 10% of Interviewers.

1. What do you know?

2. How smart are you?

3. Where's the meat?

4. Are you worthy of my time?

The Careful. 45% of Interviewers.

1. Who else knows you?

2. How respected and respectful are you?

3. Do you think concretely?

4. Do I get real value here?

Why is this so important? In brief, ask yourself if your words, tone and body language convey positive respect for the values, needs, and strengths of each of the four types? Just try out the list above as your "cleanup" checklist when creating the final draft of practice answers for that next interview panel.

Oh yeah, and write me when you land that job!
