CASN is excited to announce the launch of an online Nurse Educator Certificate Course starting February 2014!
Mission:  To foster excellence in the academic nurse educator role, and provide recognition and merit for the specialized knowledge, expertise, and competencies of this role in Canada!
Audience:
Nurse educators teaching in baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing education programs in Canada, and graduate students interested in pursuing an academic career.
Delivery: Online
Timeframe: beginning February 2014 (course schedule will be available this winter).
Course Themes:
- Developing a teaching dossier
- Foundation of teaching and learning
- Curriculum development and evaluation
- Scholarship of teaching and learning
- Teaching strategies and skills
- Evaluating and providing feedback
- Ethical considerations in teaching and learning

CASN is Proud to Announce Joanne Profetto-McGrath as the CASN Nursing Education Research Scholar for 2013!
In 2011, CASN created an annual award to support research in nursing education being carried out by a Canadian scholar. Dr. Profetto-McGrath is a highly productive scholar with a passion and commitment to advancing the quality of nursing education in Canada, and has a strong record of mentoring researchers as well as undergraduate student and new graduates. Her research program is built on scholarly inquiry into nursing education with a focus on critical thinking and knowledge utilization regarding Clinical Nurse Specialists' roles and elder care.
Dr. Profetto-McGrath will receive a $10,000 grant to promote her nursing education research through inquiry, mentorship, and dissemination. Dr. Profetto-McGrath's program of research in nursing education will be addressed when she provides the "Pat Griffin Annual Lecture" at the 2013 CASN Council meeting.

L'ACESI d�voile le nom de la chercheure r�cipiendaire du poste de recherche en formation infirmi�re 2013 - Joanne Profetto-McGrath!
En 2011, l'ACESI a cr�� une bourse annuelle pour appuyer une chercheure canadienne qui se distingue par un programme solide de recherche en formation infirmi�re. La Dre Profetto-McGrath est une chercheure qui a d�montr� sa productivit� en recherche, sa passion, et son engagement � faire progresser la qualit� de la formation infirmi�re au Canada. Elle est reconnue pour son mentorat aupr�s des chercheures, des �tudiantes de premier cycle et des nouvelles dipl�m�es. Son programme de recherche est bas� sur la recherche acad�mique en formation infirmi�re. Elle se concentre sur la pens�e critique et l'utilisation des connaissances en ce qui concerne les r�les des infirmi�res cliniciennes sp�cialis�es et les soins aux a�n�s.
La Dre Profetto-McGrath se verra accorder une bourse de 10,000$ qui lui permettra de promouvoir la recherche en formation infirmi�re par l'enqu�te, le mentorat et la diffusion. De plus, le programme de recherche en �ducation infirmi�re de la Dre Profetto-McGrath sera pr�sent� lors de la �Conf�rence magistrale annuelle Pat Griffin� � la r�union du Conseil de l'ACESI en 2013.

Clinical Instructor Certificate Course: Registration for January 2014 Opening soon !
CASN is pleased to announce a certificate course for nursing clinical instructors beginning January 2014! Registration opening soon!
Course Description: This five-week course will encompass clinical education at the baccalaureate level in acute care settings and public health/community health care placements.
Course themes will include:
- Roles and responsibilities of the clinical instructor
- Monitoring and evaluating students in clinical settings
- Developing good patient assignments
- Mentoring and coaching students
- Creating a positive learning environment for students
- Roles and responsibilities of the educational unit in clinical education, and
- Issues, challenges, and strategies for clinical instructors
Audience: This course is designed for novice nursing clinical instructors teaching at the baccalaureate level, clinical instructors wishing to improve their teaching skills, and Registered Nurses interested in becoming clinical instructors.
Course Delivery: Online; five, two-hour live webinars, and a final online exam

L'ACESI a le plaisir d'annoncer un cours menant � l'obtention d'un certificat d'enseignante clinique, qui sera offert en janvier 2014. Sachez que les inscriptions sont maintenant ouvertes !
Description de cours: Ce cours de cinq semaines portera sur la formation clinique au niveau baccalaur�at, dans les �tablissements de soins actifs ainsi que des stages en sant� publique/soins de sant� communautaire.
Les th�mes des cours seront les suivants :
- les r�les et les responsabilit�s de l'enseignante clinique
- le suivi et l'�valuation des �tudiantes en milieux cliniques
- le d�veloppement d'affectations appropri�es des patients
- le mentorat et l'encadrement des �tudiantes
- la cr�ation d'un environnement d'apprentissage positif pour les �tudiantes
- les r�les et les responsabilit�s de l'unit� d'enseignement en formation clinique, et
- les enjeux, les d�fis et les strat�gies pour les enseignantes cliniques
Public cible: Ce cours s'adresse aux enseignantes cliniques novices (qui enseignent au niveau baccalaur�at), aux enseignantes cliniques qui d�sirent am�liorer leurs comp�tences p�dagogiques, ainsi qu'aux infirmi�res autoris�es qui souhaiteraient devenir enseignantes cliniques.

University of Ottawa-Great Lakes University of Kisumu Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Health Research: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

This Fellowship is intended to actively support junior researchers who have the passion, commitment, and leadership capacity to use research to address urgent global health challenges. The award will support a postdoctoral fellow for 12 months of mentored training tailored to an approved health systems or community health research focus. For 2014, one Canadian fellow and one Kenyan fellow will be selected.
Fellows are required to participate as mentors in the Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) International Research Internship in Kisumu, Kenya (April 25th-May 28th, 2014). The selected Kenyan Fellow will work on-site at GLUK in Kisumu, Kenya for 12 months. The selected Canadian Fellow will work on-site at the University of Ottawa, Canada for 11 months and one month on-site at GLUK for the internship.
The First International Conference on Prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

The First International Conference on Prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder will be held in Edmonton, Alberta from September 23-25, 2013. Plenary sessions will promote discussion and reflection on promising and innovative approaches in the field, including the important role nurses play in addressing the issue. The conference will serve as an international knowledge networking forum for those working in the field of alcohol and pregnancy, bringing together key experts from around the globe.

Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Workshop
The workshop will provide participants with rigorous methods and tools to appraise and synthesize evidence from research literature. The theme illustrating the methodology is patient safety.
