Congratulations to the 2012 State Sunrise Award Recipients!

We are very excited to announce that 35 Look Good Feel BetterŪ volunteers were recently named recipients of the 2012 State Sunrise Awards for their outstanding service, contributions, and dedication to the Look Good Feel Better program. These volunteers have touched the lives of thousands of cancer patients through their efforts.

The 2012 volunteer winners were chosen by their peers from among more than 6,000 volunteers across the country, based on their exemplary work with the Look Good Feel Better. The Sunrise Awards recognize volunteers for their service during the previous year. Congratulations to the following volunteers:

To be considered for the State Sunrise Award, volunteers must participate in at least four Look Good Feel Better programs or activities during the year. They are nominated by American Cancer Society staff, peers, or self-nominated in the appropriate category. Recipients are selected in each category by Society Division staff responsible for the program in their region.

If you are interested in nominating a dedicated volunteer who has made an exceptional contribution, or if you would like to nominate yourself for consideration in 2013, the application and submission guidelines are available on the Look Good Feel Better Web site (lookgoodfeelbetter.org) under the “Appreciation” tab. All forms should be completed and submitted to the Society Division office by April 30, 2013.

Don’t forget, the state recipients form the candidate pool for the National Sunrise Awards. More information about the 2012 Look Good Feel Better National Sunrise Award recipients will be available when they are honored at PBA’s Beauty Week in July in Las Vegas.

Second Annual Get With It...Get Healthy Event a Success!

On February 16, 2013, the second Get With It...Get Healthy event to benefit Look Good Feel BetterŪ, took place at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, CA. Hosted by the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD), the day included special guest celebrity fitness expert Kathy Kaehler and a keynote address by Howard Murad, MD, FAAD, a board certified dermatologist, trained pharmacist, and associate clinical professor of Medicine at UCLA. Ms. Kaehler and Dr. Murad discussed how to live a healthy lifestyle both inside and out.

The day began with an energy-infused workout. In true Kathy Kaehler style, the workout required no gym or sophisticated equipment, just determination and perseverance. After an hour long work out, attendees headed to a luncheon keynote address with Dr. Murad. He addressed not only how to stay healthy by eating right, but how to attain a healthy mindset. He shared some of his own personal mantras and self affirmations that have helped hundreds of his patients over the years.

Following lunch, attendees were led into the Beauty Bar with nail, makeup, eyebrow, and skin stations offering services at reduced costs that also benefitLook Good Feel Better Attendees also had the opportunity to bid on silent auction items which included prizes such as a one-on-one work out with Kathy Kaehler, mini spa sets, a pair of earrings from Harry Winston and many more.
