Look Good Feel Better Hosts First Live Virtual Workshop in Spanish
Because Hispanics make up almost 17 percent of the population in the United States and represent as much as 50 percent of the population in some major markets, such as Los Angeles, California and San Antonio, Texas, the Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) program has offered bilingual and Spanish language workshops for many years to Latina women around the country. In response to a growing need to provide more programming for the Hispanic community, the Personal Care Products Foundation recently offered its first live virtual LGFB workshop in Spanish.
Hosted by journalist Lourdes Stephen of Univision’s Salt & Pepper news and entertainment show, the live stream was broadcast on January 16 from New York. More than 300 viewers tuned in to the virtual workshop, which covered everything from skin care, cosmetics, and nail and hair care to hair alternatives choices, such as turbans, scarves, and wigs.
“Look Good Feel Better was pleased to be able to bring the virtual workshop platform to the Spanish-speaking community in order to fill a void in our program delivery,” said Louanne Roark, executive director of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation. (The foundation offers the LGFB program in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association.) “We believe better serving this community of cancer patients is vital in helping the Look Good Feel Better program grow. Lourdes was the ideal choice to host our first Spanish language virtual workshop. She really helped to connect Look Good Feel Better to this underserved community and allowed us to reach out even more to the Latina community in the United States.”
“The main reason I got involved with Look Good Feel Better is that cancer affects everybody,” said the Univison TV host. “My mother had cancer, and I would have loved to have done something like this for my mom. When I saw the four courageous women featured in the workshop, I saw my mom in their faces.”
The virtual program would not have been possible without the generous support of Clarisonic, the largest corporate financial donor in the program’s history. Special thanks also to host Lourdes Stephen for her time and participation in the virtual program, as well as to Look Good Feel Better volunteers Lilly Rivera and Petra BelÚn Muriel for their continued work to help make this program possible.
