President's Message
Emily Pataki

                                      Emily

Greetings Republicans!

We are winding down another great year for our club.  We have been privileged to have hosted several fantastic speakers, and many of our members have participated in legislative efforts and grassroots movements in Texas in 2013.  Whether it was camping out at the state capitol to insure passage of landmark pro-life legislation; communicating with our state and federal officials the will of the people; or attending next month's TFRW convention in San Antonio to get prepared for the 2014 election season, as usual, our club has been very active in supporting and participating in the grassroots conservative movement in Williamson County.  The WCRW has proven itself an invaluable asset to the state and county GOP since it's inception in 1977, and we hope to remain a force that inspires admiration amongst our friends (and trepidation and annoyance amongst our foes!) We need your help, though, in order to maintain all the good that we do.

October 14th is our second annual Birthday Party Fundraiser, which is a great chance for us to all come together and celebrate our 36 years as a club.  It is also a great opportunity to help support our club and "gift" your contribution to help fund our efforts to elect conservative Republicans in Texas and Williamson County.  Your gift will also help us fund our scholarship program, which helps give young conservative women a chance to supplement their college education with a grant from our club.  So please come to our birthday party, have some fun - and cake - and help us raise important money for next year with your generous gifts.

Thank you again for all that you do.  Where would we be without fantastic members and supporters like you?!

Sincerely,
Emily Pataki
President

Social Fun

Our next event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22nd at The Dig Pub.  All people currently listed as running for an elected office in the primaries have been invited.  We've already received a few commitments from judicial candidates!  Come meet with friends and candidates!

Directions to The Dig Pub

We had a great visit at Jack Allen's Kitchen for our last social/new member event!  Pictured is new member Lisa Messana and future member Baby Pataki that night.  Much thanks to our WCRW President Emily Pataki for sharing her precious baby and son!

Budget or Bust?
By: Cari Christman

That is the trillion dollar question in Washington, D.C. and across the nation today.
Federal politics is not my cup of tea, so I rarely talk about it publically and I definitely don't write about publically.  But frankly, the question of whether or not Congress will flip the light switch off is getting down right old.  How many years are Americans going to stand by and allow the same debate, year after year, interview after interview of the same ole rhetoric?

The threat of a federal government shutdown is not new.  In fact, it has become a theme.  In recent years threats of shutdowns have occurred as recent as 2011, 2012, and now 2013.  The longest United States government shutdown lasted no more than three weeks, occurring over the holidays between December 1995 and January 1996, under the Clinton Administration.  If Congress fails to send a continuing resolution to President Obama's desk by Oct. 1st, it could mark the country's 18th government shutdown in our nation's history.

Surprisingly, when our government closed its doors, typically lasting a few days at best, it didn't come to a screeching halt.  History shows, essential government functions marched on during so-called "budget gaps".

For the most part, turning the federal government's lights off might be a relevant exercise to truly determine essential government functions. On the other hand, I believe Americans are ready for republican elected officials to take bold steps to accomplish fiscal discipline and restraint.

No one ever said budgeting is easy, but it's a necessary discipline that Congress must grasp before the prosperity and liberty our country has worked and fought so hard to enjoy, becomes a faint memory.

Membership Update

It's time to renew for 2014!  Per TFRW practices, any new memberships after September 1st will provide privileges through December 2014.  Why not beat the January Rush and renew now!  Or if you haven't joined yet, take advantage of this great deal and get three free months!  2014 promises to be an exciting year for our club but also an important year for Williamson County Republicans.  Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Box Tops for Education has been operating since 1996.  Each box top is worth 10 cents, and schools use the money for whatever they need - from books to field trips.  There are about 240 participation products and include Land of Lakes Butter, Ziploc Bogs, Chex Mix, Totino's Pizza, Cheerios Cereal, Juicy Juice, and Betty Crocker Bake Mixes.  WCRW collects these box tops for presentation to the Parent Teacher Organization at Thrall Elementary School.  We appreciate our membership's participation.
WCRW received 171 box tops at our last monthly meeting from Wanda Terrell.  A very special THANK YOU to this Grand Lady who has worked for so many years to help keep the Texas Republicans going and growing.
