Greetings in Christ Jesus,
Babylon cannot be healed! She is a malignancy that has invaded the church in the form of Roman Catholicism, Liberal Protestantism, Eastern Orthodoxy and anything else that is a mixture of gospel truth and pagan or humanistic lies. Throughout the scripture, God declares that He hates a mixture and this mixture is indefensible Biblically, must be completely rooted out and destroyed. Many have tried to change and reform Rome from within including Martin Luther and other Reformers whom were members of the Roman Catholic intelligentsia. However, they failed and had to leave, as all must leave "Babylon" when they learn the truth, and that is the truth of God's word. Yet, Rome continues to practice these lies and this mixture to this day spreading confusion and deadly deception and keeping the many from the simple saving faith that saves their souls. Also, note that Liberal Protestantism is a harlot church that "cannot be healed" and has re-joined her "mother" in her rebellion and harlotry. The lies that spew from one like Archbishop Desmond Tutu makes me wonder and praise the patience and mercy of our just God who does not respect men and holds back from striking down such a perverted wolf, waiting patiently for all men to repent before judgment eventually comes to the wicked. Their tongue is a deadly arrowThese "churches" have become so crooked that even when those in leadership try to reform laws (such as you will see in this alert), it only ends up causing greater wickedness and the foulness and evil in their hearts cannot help but surface. An interesting trend you may want to note regards the banking/economic industry (part of the great harlot of Rev 18 in my and many others opinion) making it difficult for her false religious sister to "do business". This infighting is all points to the beast turning on and destroying the woman who now controls the world system. Please pray for those caught up in the lies and deception and share the good news with those you know trapped in her clutches as well as those being lured back due to the terrible state of the Evangelical remnant. As always, take all these things to The Lord in prayer, go to His Word, and ask Him for wisdom and understanding in these last days. May the Lord bless and keep you, Scott Brisk

Pope Francis assures atheists: You don't have to believe in God to go to heaven
| THE INDEPENDENT, UK [Alexander & Evgeny Lebedev] - By Michael Day - September 12, 2013 In comments likely to enhance his progressive reputation, Pope Francis has written a long, open letter to the founder of La Repubblica newspaper, Eugenio Scalfari, stating that non-believers would be forgiven by God if they followed their consciences. Responding to a list of questions published in the paper by Mr Scalfari, who is not a Roman Catholic, Francis wrote: "You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don't believe and who don't seek the faith. I start by saying - and this is the fundamental thing - that God's mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.
"Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience." Robert Mickens, the Vatican correspondent for the Catholic journal The Tablet, said the pontiff's comments were further evidence of his attempts to shake off the Catholic Church's fusty image, reinforced by his extremely conservative predecessor Benedict XVI. "Francis is a still a conservative," said Mr Mickens. "But what this is all about is him seeking to have a more meaningful dialogue with the world."
In a welcoming response to the letter, Mr Scalfari said the Pope's comments were "further evidence of his ability and desire to overcome barriers in dialogue with all". In July, Francis signalled a more progressive attitude on sexuality, asking: "If someone is gay and is looking for the Lord, who am I to judge him?"

Archbishop [of Canterbury]: Christians must repent for homophobia |
Moriel Statement concerning this article:
ICHABOD
WELBY DEDICATES NEW EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE HEADQUARTERS BUILDING ACCUSING BRITISH BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS OF MALICE TOWARDS HOMOSEXUAL AND SAYS EVANGELICALS MUST REPENT.
This is exactly yet another example of the kinds of reasons that no truly saved Christian should have anything to do with the utterly backslidden, spiritually bankrupt, and theologically abject nonsense known as The Church of England or that pathetic, morally and doctrinally compromised, and completely irrelevant religious joke known as the UK Evangelical Alliance. Such hideous institutions are an insult to the Name and cause of Christ and regenerate clergy remaining in them can only be scripturally ignorant misfits, spineless cowards or both.
Hating homosexuality is not malice towards homosexuals but rather malice towards the un-natural perversion that medically reduces their longevity and sends them to eternal hell. God's Word condemns this abomination and Jesus can set homosexuals and lesbians free from its diabolical clutches that is destroying their lives and their souls. This is Christian love, not malice. Yet the worthless hypocrites club known as the Evangelical Alliance invites this Arch Bishop to help dedicate its headquarters, which should be named ' THE ICHABOD' BUILDING' and does nothing when Steve Chalke calls upon British Evangelicals to support same sex marriage just as it did nothing when Chalke denied the substitutionary atonement of Christ. No one who loves Jesus will be party to such apostate wickedness; such organizations are the mere domain of deceived religious babblers who no longer have any place in the purposes of Christ as revealed in The Word of God. They can keep their stupid religion - true Christians prefer Jesus.
JJP/Moriel
UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL - August 29, 2013 Christian malice toward homosexuals and homosexuality is "totally wrong" and "demands repentance," Britain's archbishop of Canterbury told evangelical leaders. "The church has not been good at dealing with homophobia," the Most Rev. Justin Welby told a gathering of leaders of the Evangelical Alliance, representing Great Britain's 2 million evangelical Christians.
"In fact, we have, at times, as God's people, in various places, really implicitly and even explicitly supported it -- and that demands repentance," he said. "And we have to be really, really repentant about that because it is utterly and totally wrong," the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion told the group at the dedication of a new headquarters. Welby, 57, opposed letting gay couples adopt children when he was a young priest.
On the eve of his installation as archbishop March 21 he told the BBC he adhered to the traditional Anglican doctrine defining marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman and said he opposed gay and lesbian weddings in church. Last month he voted against a bill in the House of Lords allowing same-sex marriage in England and Wales. The bill ultimately passed in Parliament. He said Wednesday he didn't regret his vote against the Same-Sex Marriage Act. ...
Public-opinion polls suggest most Christian young people, including young, born-again evangelical Christians, disagree with the church's traditional line on homosexuality, Welby said. "I'm continuing to think and listen very carefully as to how in our society today we respond to what is the most rapid cultural change in this area that there has been -- well, I don't know if ever -- but for a very long time," he said. ...

Tutu wants to "go to hell"
Archbishop Tutu 'would not worship a homophobic God'
| BBC NEWS [PSB operated by BBC Trust] - July 26, 2013 South Africa's Nobel peace laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu says he will never worship a "homophobic God" and will rather go to hell. The retired archbishop was speaking at the launch of a UN-backed campaign in South Africa to promote gay rights. Despite same-sex relationships being legal in South Africa, it had some of the worst cases of homophobic violence, UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said.
Archbishop Tutu, 81, is a long-standing campaigner for gay rights. ... In Africa, homosexual acts are still a crime in 38 countries, according to the rights group Amnesty International. "I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place," Archbishop Tutu said at the launch of the Free and Equal campaign in Cape Town.
"I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this." Archbishop Tutu said the campaign against homophobia was similar to the campaign waged against racism in South Africa. "I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level," he added. ...

Changing faiths at the Crystal Cathedral
"'It was the Crystal Cathedral, and now it's the Catholic cathedral.' I think that's what people will say."
They will dip a finger into blessed waters and make the sign of the cross. They will sing along as the rumbling organ, among the largest in the world, plays traditional hymns. And they will kneel as the priest leads them in prayer during the transubstantiation of unleavened bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.

Once the symbol of a congregation founded by Robert Schuller, the cathedral is now part of a church with rites and traditions that span centuries.
LOS ANGELES TIMES [Tribune Company] - By Rick Rojas - September 13, 2013 Towering like the Emerald City, the cathedral formerly known as Crystal sits at what might be Orange County's nucleus, a trinity of confluencing freeways, the Angels and Ducks stadium and a glimpse of a sacred place of a different kind - Disneyland
From that gleaming sanctuary, evangelist Robert Schuller delivered sermons that were beamed to television sets around the world. His ministry became synonymous with the megachurch, designed so the light and the breeze could stream through, a grand replica of his humble beginnings preaching on the roof of an Orange drive-in's snack shop.
The Crystal Cathedral was to Schuller what Graceland was to Elvis. Now it has been bought by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, which has long coveted having a cathedral that sat at the center of its vast footprint of 1.2 million Catholics.
The name has already been changed to the Christ Cathedral. But the work of liturgical consultants, priests and architects to transform a temple so closely identified as a symbol of Schuller's sunny, uniquely Southern Californian theology into one that conforms to the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church has just begun.
"The exterior will always be the Crystal Cathedral, at least for a while," said Duncan Stroik, a professor of architecture at Notre Dame and editor of the publication Sacred Architecture Journal. "Catholic on the inside, but kind of Protestant on the outside."
Those who have taken on the project recognize that their assignment is a intimidating one, but they also have faith:
They can turn the Crystal Cathedral into the Christ Cathedral.
Rob Neal can imagine a Sunday morning a few years from now. The Catholic worshipers arrive at a shimmering cathedral - a fabrication of glass, metal and air - that reaches toward a cobalt sky.
It will be an "intrinsically Catholic" sanctuary," said Neal, the Orange County property developer who has volunteered to help lead the conversion. ...
"It's probably the first megachurch turned into a Catholic place," Stroik said. "It's an interesting shape, it's glass, it's not cruciform. All those things would not be traditional, or typical, of a Catholic Cathedral."
A cathedral, at least in the Catholic standard, tends to evoke a mental image of a gilded Roman basilica. Woeger is quick to correct that: A cathedral - named for the cathedra, the bishop's chair - can be gothic, it can be Byzantine, it can be as modern as the Crystal Cathedral.
The overarching requirement, Stroik said, is that Catholics believe the cathedral is God's house; as such, the structure should reflect that: "It should be beautiful, it should be worthy."
The obstacles are in the details. They'll have to install a traditional altar, a gospel lectern called an ambo and baptismal font into a structure that was built as a television studio as much as a sanctuary. They'll also have to add prominent images of such figures as the Virgin Mary, the apostles and, especially, the church's namesake. ...
But that last hurdle remains, one of perception: How can they change how people think of a place that, for so long, has been identified with a well-known evangelical figure and the theology he preached?
It's something that weighs on Woeger's mind.
The first Mass won't be held there until at least 2015, meaning it will be some time until infants will be baptized there and sinners come to confess. It'll take even longer before the new congregants feel that the church is their own - that it is, indeed, Catholic.
"It'll develop its own presence and its own story as the community starts to gather there," Woeger said. "The worship itself is what will give it a Catholic identity."
He pondered that for a moment.
"'It was the Crystal Cathedral, and now it's the Catholic cathedral.' I think that's what people will say."

Pope breaks with protocol by bowing to Queen Rania of Jordan
| LONDON DAILY TELEGRAPH [Press Holdings/Barclay] - By Tom Kington, Rome - August 30, 2013 The Pope has broken yet another point of Vatican protocol by bowing when he met Queen Rania of Jordan. As head of state at the Vatican, not to mention the leader of the world's 1.2 billion catholics, protocol requires visitors to bow to him when they meet him at the Holy See.
But Francis, who has made the forgetting of formalities a trademark of his papacy, bowed when he met a smiling Rania as she visited the Vatican with her husband King Abdullah II on Thursday. "Up until the 19th century visitors would kiss the pope's shoes, and the tradition is still that all visitors, women included, bow to him, but Francis behaves as he did before he became pope and is not interested in protocol," a senior Vatican official told The Daily Telegraph. ...
It is not the first time the Pope has eschewed formality when receiving visitors. When Cristina Kirchner, Argentina's president, met him in March, a day before his formal inauguration, he gave her a kiss after she presented him with a gourd for mate, the traditional Argentine tea. ... Francis' bow was just the latest in a series of signs the pope has no time for ceremony. On Wednesday he showed up in central Rome for a religious ceremony in an unmarked Ford, without the papal flag or number plate, driven by a Vatican gendarme.

Pope Criminalizes the Reporting of Sex Crimes
| NEWSLO - By Justin Dodd - July 17, 2013 VATICAN CITY - Few eyebrows were raised last week when Pope Francis brought the Vatican's legal system up to date by criminalizing leaks of official information and formalizing laws against sex crimes. But now that the laws have been made public, a closer look revealed that the pope has made it illegal to report sex crimes against children. According to the new laws, revealing or receiving confidential Vatican information is now punishable by up to two years in prison, while newly defined sex crimes against children carry a sentence of up to twelve years. Because all sex crimes are kept confidential, there is no longer a legal way for Vatican officials to report sex crimes. "We didn't mean for this to happen, obviously," lamented Vatican foreign minister Monsignor Dominique Mamberti. "It's quite the papal pickle that His Holiness has placed upon our heads. Sex crimes are more illegal than ever, but technically it's illegal to report them." Mamberti said that the simultaneous passing of each law is merely a coincidence and insisted that the Church is not trying to protect itself against further embarrassment, but critics outside the Vatican are skeptical.
"They know exactly what they're doing," claims Fabrizio Perona of Italy's La Repubblica newspaper. "They just thought nobody would notice. The Church wants to impress the world by getting tough on sex crimes, but they criminalized leaks, which is the only way anybody would ever discover their crimes. It's genius, if you stop and think about it." Mamberti says plans are already being made to eliminate the loophole, but change often comes slowly to antiquated Vatican law, which is based on the 1889 Italian code. "We're not going to let a dangerous law like this stand, but people need to understand that this is the Vatican, and there is a process here. Voting, incense, prayer. We ask the minors at risk to please be patient with us." Fortunately, only clergy and lay people who live and work in Vatican City are subject to the new legislation, which differs from the canon law governing the universal Catholic Church. As the Holy See moves to clarify the law, Mamberti has warned would-be offenders within Vatican walls that they "are still subject to the most watchful eye of all: the eye of God. His judgment is greater than-oh, who am I kidding? For now, there is nothing we can do."

Pope expands Vatican court authority, criminalizes leaks, sex abuse
| CATHOLIC NEWS SERVICE [U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops] - By Cindy Wooden - July 11, 2013 Vatican City -- Pope Francis has approved a major updating of the criminal laws of Vatican City State, including in areas dealing with child abuse and terrorism financing, and has ruled that any Vatican employee can be tried by the Vatican court for violating those laws. The pope has also specified new penalties for unauthorized releases of Vatican documents more than a year after a series of leaks embroiled the church's central command and led to the trial of Pope Benedict's papal butler.
The Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State adopted the laws, which were made applicable to all Vatican employees around the world -- for example, Vatican ambassadors serving abroad -- in a document Pope Francis signed Thursday. The amendments to the Vatican's criminal code and code for criminal procedures go into effect Sept. 1 and bring Vatican law into detailed compliance with several international treaties the Vatican has signed in the last 30 years as well as with developments in international law. ...
Previously, he said, those specific crimes would have been dealt with under more generic laws against the mistreatment of minors. The bulk of the Vatican's criminal code is based on an 1889 version of Italy's criminal code and did not, for example, contemplate the crime of child pornography, Dalla Torre said. The changes to Vatican City civil law are separate from the universally applicable canon law, norms and sanctions, which require bishops around the world to turn over to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith cases of priests accused of child sexual abuse or possession of child pornography. The canonical penalties include the possibility of the priest being expelled from the priesthood. ...

Vatican's first resident envoy to Malaysia on use of the word, Allah, the beauty of Islam, ...
| THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER [Yahoo News Malaysia] - By Jennifer Gomez - July 11, 2013 In his first interview with the Malaysian media, the first resident diplomat sent by the Vatican to live and work in this country responded to the controversial issue of the use of the Arabic word, Allah, to describe god in any religion, as well as the very current hot button topic of religious conversions. Archbishop Joseph Marino said he supports the stand of the Catholic Church in Malaysia. He applauded the arguments made by the Christian Federation of Malaysia to use "Allah" in its texts to refer to God as very well done. Archbishop Marino qualified that although the ongoing court case was an internal matter for Malaysia, he was in support of the Christian federation's arguments for the term, saying they were "quite logical and acceptable". ... "Of course they mentioned that there are some questions pending in society about the usage of the word Allah and conversion, but the real focus was on the pastoral work of the church and how she was responding to the needs of the Catholic community," he said. "The role of the Vatican ambassador is to support whatever the Bishops and the Christians are doing. I told the bishops I am willing to participate in their efforts, including in inter-religious dialogue." "And inter-religious dialogue had nothing to do with conversion. We are not there to covert one another, we are children of God coming together to speak about our different experiences with God," he said. ...

'It was a sign': Lapsed Catholics lured back by Pope Francis
| NBCNEWS.com, New York City, U.S.[NBCUniversal(Comcast/GeneralElectric)] - By Tracy Connor - April 10, 2013 Twenty million Americans consider themselves lapsed Catholics, but Pope Francis is convincing many to test the holy waters again with his bold gestures and common touch. After years of disenchantment with the church's hierarchy and teachings, former members of the flock say they are willing to give the Vatican a second chance under new leadership.
Dallas teacher Marilyn Rosa is one of them. "It was a sign," Rosa, 57, said of the Argentine Jesuit's election as pontiff last month. "It was like a miracle." Born and raised Catholic, Rosa attended parochial schools and had a church wedding for her first marriage. Over the years, she drifted away from the religion that had been such an integral part of her Puerto Rican family's life. She questioned the relevance of church policies in the modern world. As a divorced woman, she felt cast out. The pedophile-priest scandals disgusted her. Three years ago, she quit going to Mass and joined an evangelical church. But she didn't feel at home and she started to wonder how she could fill the void.
"The day the pope got elected, I turned on the TV and when I learned he was Latin, I went crazy at home," said Rosa. "When they started to talk about how he lived by himself and didn't move into the archbishop's residence, how he took the bus to work, I said, 'I know God is talking to me. This is the man we needed.'" On Palm Sunday, she and her second husband "reverted," attending services at Dallas' St. Pius X Catholic Church. ... Rosa has kept going to back to St. Pius, encouraged by what she's seen of the pope: from the simple white robe he wears to his rejection of the opulent papal apartment in favor of a spartan guest house. ...
Tom Peterson, president of Catholics Come Home, which airs ads aimed at the lapsed, said his website traffic tripled the day of the election, adding several thousand visitors. It's been double ever since. Some interest could stem from the hubbub surrounding the selection of any pontiff, but Peterson thinks Francis' "love for the poor and his humility is exciting people to a great extent." Father Peter Mussett, pastor of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center, which serves the University of Colorado at Boulder, agrees. "I had five people in a week who were saying, 'Pope Francis has inspired me to return to my faith,'" he said. "It's pretty remarkable." ...
Brian O'Neill, 48, an Irish-American cop from Washington State, went to Catholic elementary school and a Jesuit high school but hasn't practiced since graduating from a secular college. He says that could change soon. The Vatican's stance on social issues, along with the gilded lifestyle of some higher-ups previously drove O'Neill away. Francis' embrace of the poor and his background as a service-minded Jesuit might bring the father of two back. "I was shocked and amazed when he started doing those things -- you know, 'No Popemobile for me,'" said O'Neill, who wrote a column for his local newspaper about possibly returning to Catholicism. ...

The pope and the devil: Is Francis an exorcist?
| ASSOCIATED PRESS - By Nicole Winfield - May 21, 2013 VATICAN CITY -- Is Pope Francis an exorcist? The question has been swirling ever since Francis laid his hands Sunday on the head of a young man after celebrating Mass in St. Peter's Square. The young man heaved deeply a half-dozen times, shook, and he then slumped in his wheelchair as Francis prayed over him. The television station of the Italian bishops' conference said it had surveyed exorcists, who agreed there was "no doubt" that Francis either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil. The Vatican was more cautious Tuesday. In a statement, it said Francis "didn't intend to perform any exorcism. But as he often does for the sick or suffering, he simply intended to pray for someone who was suffering who was presented to him." Fueling the speculation is Francis' obsession with Satan, a frequent subject of his homilies, and an apparent surge in demand for exorcisms among the faithful despite the irreverent treatment the rite often receives from Hollywood. ...

Man Pope Prayed Over Still 'Possessed' NEWSMAX [NewsMax Media, Inc.] - By Edward Pentin - May 29, 2013 A 43-year-old Mexican father of two, who claims to be possessed by demons - and whom Pope Francis prayed over earlier this month in what some witnesses likened to a public exorcism - insists that he still has demons inside him. Identified only as Angel V., the man told Spanish-language newspaper El Mundo that he had undergone some 30 exorcisms by 10 exorcists, including the renowned Roman exorcist Rev. Gabriel Amorth, who all tried unsuccessfully to free him from his affliction. The interview was reported in the Italian daily La Stampa. "I still have the demons inside me, they have not gone away," the man said, noting that he felt much better after the Pope prayed over him. El Mundo reported that the man is able to walk. He was in a wheelchair when he met Pope Francis on May 19 at the conclusion of Mass on Pentecost Sunday. ...

Cardinal recounts details of Pope's visit to St. Peter's tomb
| CATHOLIC WORLD NEWS (CWN) - April 3, 2013 Cardinal Angelo Comastri, Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica since 2006, has discussed details of Pope Francis's April 1 visit to St. Peter's tomb, which is located in the necropolis under the basilica.
"His first stop was before the Egyptian Mausoleum (which dates back to the 2nd century)," Cardinal Comastri recounted. "In this mausoleum amid many pagan tombs there is also a Christian tomb. Christianity in fact, like yeast, was penetrating the pagan world. The Pope exclaimed in admiration: 'It's like this today, too!'"
"We then made a second stop before the funerary stele of a man called Istatilio," the cardinal continued. "He was certainly Christian: on his grave is the monogram [chi-rho]of Christ. On the stele is inscribed: 'He was at peace with everyone and never caused strife.' The Pope, after reading the phrase, looked at us and said, 'That is a beautiful program of life.'"
Cardinal Comastri added:
Climbing back up the stairs and having reached the Clementine Chapel, Pope Francis became absorbed in prayer and repeated with a loud voice the three professions of Peter: "Lord, You are the Christ, Son of the Living God"; "Lord, to whom do we go? You have the words of eternal life"; "Lord, You know all things! You know that I love you!" At that moment, we had the distinct impression that the life of Peter rose out of centuries past and became present and living in the current Successor of the Apostle Peter.

Consulates and the Vatican in chaos as HSBC tells them to find another bank
| LONDON DAILY MAIL [Associated Newspapers/DMGT] - By Joanne Hart - August 4, 2013 Diplomats in London have been thrown into chaos after Britain's biggest bank, HSBC, sacked them as customers and gave them 60 days to move their accounts. Their situation has been made far worse because other banks have been closing ranks and refusing to take their business. More than 40 embassies, consulates and High Commissions have been affected. Even the Vatican has been given its marching orders.
The Pope's representative office in Britain, the Apostolic Nunciature, has banked with HSBC for many years but was told to find another bank. One diplomatic source said he believed HSBC feared being exposed to embassies after it was fined $2billion (1.32billion) by US authorities last year. It was blamed for alleged money-laundering activities said to have been conducted through its Latin American operations by drug cartels. HSBC admitted at the time that it had failed to effectively counter money laundering.
Bernard Silver, head of the Consular Corps, which represents consuls in the UK, said: 'HSBC's decision has created havoc. Embassies and consulates desperately need a bank, not just to take in money for visas and passports, but to pay staff wages, rent bills, even the congestion charge.' Embassies also have to pay for ambassadorial accommodation and sometimes even school fees for diplomats' children. None of these bills can be settled without a valid British bank account. John Belavu, minister at the Papua New Guinea High Commission, said: 'We've been banking with HSBC for 22 years and for them to throw us off in this way was a bombshell.'
Lawrence Landau, honorary consul of Benin, said: 'We have been trying everyone, but all the UK banks are clamming up.' Other embassies are equally fraught. One said: 'HSBC did not give us any real explanation. They have only given us until the middle of August to find another bank. We can't find one and we are going crazy.' Banking sources said diplomatic missions are considered to be 'politically exposed', which means they are at risk of money laundering activities.
HSBC, however, claims its decision is part of an assessment of all business customers to see if they satisfy five criteria - 'international connectivity, economic development, profitability, cost efficiency and liquidity'. One diplomat said: 'We don't even know what these criteria mean.' HSBC would not explain the requirements to The Mail on Sunday and merely said: 'HSBC has been applying a rolling programme of "five filter" assessments to all its businesses since May 2011, and our services for embassies are no exception.'
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office said it was in contact with HSBC and had provided a number of diplomatic missions with letters of introduction 'to help in opening a new bank account'. The debacle comes as HSBC prepares to unveil its half-year profits tomorrow. The group is expected to report that it made $14.6billion (9.6billion) in profits for the first six months of the year. It made $12.7billion in the same period last year.

Wealth of Roman Catholic Church impossible to calculate
| NATIONAL POST [Postmedia Network Inc./Postmedia Network Canada Corp] - By Kristopher Morrison - March 8, 2013 It is impossible to calculate the wealth of the Roman Catholic Church. In truth, the church itself likely could not answer that question, even if it wished to. Its investments and spending are kept secret. Its real estate and art have not been properly evaluated, since the church would never sell them.
There is no doubt, however, that between the church's priceless art, land, gold and investments across the globe, it is one of the wealthiest institutions on Earth. Since 313 A.D., when Catholicism became the official religion of the Roman Empire, its power has been in near-constant growth.
The church was able to acquire land, most notably the Papal States surrounding Rome, convert pagan temples and claim relics for itself. Over 300 years, it became one of Europe's largest landowners. For the next thousand years, tithes and tributes flowed in from all over Europe. Non-Christians and even fellow Christians were killed and their property confiscated. For example, the Fourth Crusade and the sack of Constantinople in the early 13th century brought it gold, money and jewels.
But by the beginning of the 20th century, the church had faced several hundred years of turbulence. Protestantism had claimed many of its members. The French Revolution at the end of the 18th century outlawed the church and though Napoleon allowed it to return, his relationship with various popes was stormy. Despite this, the church retained great influence in Europe and the Jesuit order focused on missionary work, spreading Catholicism to other countries.
In the 1870s, the Papal States were annexed by the new kingdom of Italy and the pope's territorial influence dwindled to the Vatican. In 1929, the Church received compensation for its lost land in an agreement with the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini. Under the Lateran Accords, it was paid about $92-million and, in return, recognized his government.
Investing that money helped fill the Holy See's coffers, ensuring its financial security. According to Britain's Guardian newspaper, the nest egg has grown to at least $655-million. The Vatican's portfolio includes property in London, including the building housing Bulgari Jewelers, and apartment buildings in Paris and Switzerland.

"Europa" - The Woman Riding the Beast on Euro banknotes
|
EU OBSERVER [ASBL] - November 9, 2012 BRUSSELS - In Greek mythology, the Phoenician princess Europa was abducted and raped by the king of the gods, Zeus. But her image will from next year replace pictures of windows and doors on euro banknotes as a security and deocrative feature.
"Portraits have long been used in banknotes around the world and research has shown that people tend to remember faces. Is there any better figure than Europa to serve as the new face of the euro?" the chief of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, said on Thursday (8 November) according to Bloomberg. She will first appear on the €5 note in May, with other notes introduced in ascending order in the next few years.
Europa's face will be shown as a watermark and as a hologram. Until now, euro notes carried pictures of windows and doors in various architectural styles in a symbol of openness designed not to offend national sensibilities. The new notes will also carry an emerald-coloured number.
The first series of banknotes will circulate alongside the old ones. But the old notes, first introduced 10 years ago, will eventually cease to be legal tender. "The date when this occurs will be announced well in advance," the ECB said. ...
