May 2016

Hi folks!

Hope everyone is doing well, and getting ready for summer.  I finally got my boat in the water, so now it's time to spend some time on the lake.  We've kept quite busy at the office as always, and we're continually updating processes and services.  Matt and Kelly have spent a good bit of time this week at operational and educational training events, and Kelly is still attending an advanced life insurance planning event in Topeka, KS.  The learning never stops in our business, especially with the updated DOL ruling regarding the "fiduciary standard" for financial planners when it comes to IRA / 401K planning.

If you'd like to learn more about what that means, you'll have to call the office and speak with me.  We already operate as "fiduciaries", but there are continuing education and compliance standards that must be met as all times.  Enjoy this month's articles, and as always if you have any questions just give us a call.

Please remember:  THE PURPOSE OF THE MONEY, DICTATES WHERE YOU PUT IT!!

P.S. - A special shout out and congratulations are in order for our client and good friend Dan Pelchat.   Dan took 1st. place this past Sunday in the Senior Pro-Am bowling tournament at George Pappas Victory lanes!!  Way to go Dan, good bowling!!  I was lucky enough to slide into 3rd place, so JDS Wealth Management was well represented!!  We all had a great time bowling with the professional bowlers.

Annuity Myths - Part 2
Lake Norman Magazine, May 2016
Last month I discussed types of annuities and mentioned some of the annuity myths we often hear. I think you'll see that with a little common sense and knowledge about the different annuity products, why I can't help but laugh at these myths spewed out by those who usually don't have a clue and don't understand that everyone is not in love with Wall Street all the time!

At JDS, we use annuities mainly for two specific reasons: guaranteed income or safe growth. The big trick is using the right kind for the right reason, for the right people. Below are my elaborations or responses on the first few myths we mentioned last month.

Current Investor Concerns
GFPC Thought for the Week (383)
Synopsis

* Slow economic growth, Fed policy decisions,
and China represent three of the biggest
concerns on the minds of investors right now.

* Many of the current investor concerns have
been around for decades, and they will most
likely continue to persist for some time.

* Once everything in the economy is strong and
not even the most bearish pundit can find a
problem, that will be the time to sell.

The Seven Year Itch
GFPC Thought for the Week (384)
Synopsis

* Economies cycle from expansion to contraction, and each cycle is different in both scale and timing.

* Since it's been over seven years since the end of the last recession, many investors believe that it is now time for the U.S. economy to start slowing down.

* The financial crisis was not an average recession, so investors should not expect to see an average recovery.
