Learn More About Transit Services Available Near You!
Various Lake County agencies are hosting a Transit/Paratransit Informational Open House to talk about available transportation options in the Waukegan and North Chicago Area. Representatives from the Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC), Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT), Pace, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and other service providers will be present to provide service information and answer questions.

Stay Safe this Halloween
The Lake County Sheriff's Office has been training residents, schools and Highway Patrol to help prepare for a safe Halloween. Find out what you can do to help promote your own safety with these Halloween Safety Tips.

Roadside Safety Check & Halloween Patrols
Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. To help keep residents safe, the Lake County Sheriff's Office will be implementing a roadside safety check and additional Halloween patrols. The Roadside Safety Check is scheduled for Oct. 25, 11 p.m. - 3 a.m. at an undisclosed area and is designed to keep the road safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.

Healthy Halloween Tips
Halloween candy is fun for kids, but can be a struggle for parents who are concerned about a healthy diet for their children. It can be hard to make sure we all eat enough fruits and vegetables and avoid excessive sugars and saturated fat this time of year so remember to enjoy in moderation! Did you know that LED lights last 133 times longer than incandescents and cost about 80% less to use? You can save money and help the environment this Halloween with a few recycling friendly suggestions. Low-cost pet vaccination clinics provide a convenient and affordable way to keep pets up to date with their shots and rabies tags. Pets are taken on a first come first served basis. All animals brought to a clinic must be at least four months old. Dogs must be leashed and cats placed in carriers. Only cash will be accepted on site. For more information, call: 847.377.4700.

Lake County Advances Sustainability with New Chapter in Regional Plan

The Lake County Board recently adopted a Sustainability Chapter in the County's Regional Framework Plan that helps advance sustainability both inside county government and the broader community. The County received input from residents and various stakeholders in developing the plan. The extensive document covers topics such as land use and development, including preserving open space and protecting natural resources. It also addresses transportation and mobility, energy conservation, waste reduction, and more. Read the Sustainability Chapter. Collaborative Effort Underway to Improve Water Quality in the Des Plaines River Watershed - Watch County Update
The Des Plaines River watershed in Lake County covers about a third of the County, from the Wisconsin state line to the border with Cook County. While this river looks beautiful, beneath the surface, the water quality is below standards under the Clean Water Act.
