Save the dates for Claritycon2015 - Thursday & Friday, June 18-19, 2015            

 

We are pleased to announce that the Friday keynote speaker for Claritycon2015 will be David Epston. He, along with Michael White, originated what has come to be known as Narrative Therapy and Community Work. 

 

David is a New Zealand therapist, co-director of the Family Therapy Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, and teaches at the School of Community Development, UNITEC Institute of Technology.   

 

He is the co-author of Biting the Hand that Starves You: Inspiring Resistance to Anorexia/Bulimia (2004), Playful Approaches to Serious Problems (1997), Narrative Means to Therapeutic Ends (1990), and many other publications. In 2007, the American Family Therapy Academy presented him with the "Distinguished Contribution to Family Therapy Theory and Practice" award. 

 

We look forward to welcoming David to Texas! He will be joining Thursday keynote speaker Nancy C. Andreasen, M.D., PhD and our Thursday luncheon speaker Virginia State Senator and Mental Health Advocate Creigh Deeds.

 

 

Please save the date for Claritycon2015. The event this year is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19, and will be held at a new location - the "new" Norris Conference Center and Red Oak Ballroom, opening soon on Loop 410 near Blanco Road.

Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, January 16 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Clarity CGC welcomes the New Year with a special January community event! Ariel De Llanos, MD, founder of Focus & Balance, LLC, will be the featured speaker for the Clarity CGC monthly community event on Friday, January 16. The topic of his presentation is "ATTENTION: How ADHD Can Affect Children at School and at Home."

During this 2-hour presentation, Dr. De Llanos will discuss: 
  • The implications of ADHD
  • The treatment of ADHD, and
  • Comorbidity associated with ADHD

The program qualifies for 2 hours of CEU credit (LPC, LMSW, and LMFT). Space is limited so please RSVP.

Faith G. Harper, PhD, LPC-S, and Adrian Warren, PhD, LPC-S, present Bullying and the Impact on Children's Mental Health in our latest video replay. In this video Dr. Harper and Dr. Warren review the signs of bullying and children most at risk for bullying. They also discuss the mental health consequences of bullying.

This video was recorded during Dr. Harper's and Dr. Warren's breakout session at Claritycon2014.

And their sweatshirt drive was a big success, too!

   

Thank you to the Clarity CGC Student Ambassadors from The University of the Incarnate Word, Trinity University, and University of Texas-San Antonio for your sweatshirt drive to benefit the kids at Clarity CGC. Thanks to the drives they hosted on their respective campuses, 70 sweatshirts were collected.

Thank you Student Ambassadors, Victoria Cooremans (UIW), Tyler Howard (Trinity), and Kelsey Alvarado (UTSA), for your leadership and advocacy for children's mental health on your campuses!

We heard you! Asking for nominations during the holidays was a bit challenging. So we've extended the due date to Friday, January 23 by midnight.

Please take a moment to nominate the special person who we should consider for our first Kathy Cunningham Mental Health Advocacy award. It could be you.

As we announced at Claritycon2014, Clarity CGC created an award in Kathy's memory to recognize her years of service to the kids of our community. It is intended for people on the front lines, advocating for children's mental health.

We will announce the recipient of the Kathy Cunningham Mental Health Advocacy Award at Claritycon2015 on Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19, 2015.
