free community presentation: fictional explanations of autistic behavior
Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, February 14 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

boy-playing-blocks.jpg Lee Mason, PhD, board certified behavior analyst and an assistant professor of special education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, will be the featured speaker for the Clarity CGC monthly community event on February 14. The topic of his presentation is "Fictional Explanations of Autistic Behavior."

During this 2-hour presentation, Dr. Mason will discuss autism as a contingency-shaped disorder of verbal behavior, and how conceptualizing it this way provides a more effective paradigm for behavioral research and treatment.

Attendees of this session will learn how to:
  • Define autism as a verbal behavior disorder
  • Identify explanatory fictions, and
  • Identify characteristics of behavior analytic interventions.
The program qualifies for 2 hours of CEU credit (LPC, LMSW, NAADAC and PhD). Space is limited, so please RSVP.

Location: Clarity Child Guidance Center (main campus), 8535 Tom Slick, San Antonio, Texas 78229.

teen authors needed: become part of a powerful book project

Teens can share their story with others in a new book - YOU Make a Difference

Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Freedom Writers - that's one way to describe an exciting new project to help teenagers share their stories of making a difference.

One in Five Minds, the advocacy campaign sponsored by Clarity Child Guidance Center, has been invited to participate in a powerful book project featuring teens.

Teens will have a chance to become published authors, receive valuable training from a book publisher, and make a difference in the world - all at the same time!

The YOU Make a Difference: 50 Amazing Young People Share Their Stories of Inspiration and Transformation book project was created for teens to tell their stories. One in Five Minds has agreed to support this project for the opportunity it provides teens to answer three questions:

  1. Who has made the greatest difference in your life, and what did they do?
  2. In whose life have you made the greatest difference, and what did you do?
  3. What difference would you like to see in the world, and what are you doing to contribute to it?

Stories selected to be included in the YOU Make a Difference book will allow the teenage author to tell their story, while also protecting the identity of the families and others.

To read more about how your teen can become a published author in YOU Make a Difference, please click here. One In Five Minds

One in Five Minds was founded to raise awareness, to end stigma and to increase access to treatment for children whether or not their families can pay for it. Will you become an advocate? Learn more here.
