In our latest on-demand video series, Clarissa Zamora, Director of Education and Outreach for ChildSafe, discusses the effects of trauma on the development of a child, and the risk for emotional, behavioral, academic, social and physical problems throughout their life. The title of her presentation is How Trauma Impacts a Child.

The primary objectives of this 5-part video series are to:
  • Understand the developmental differences when children are affected by child abuse.
  • Examine the history of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) research.
  • Review SEARCH Institute's 40 Developmental Assets.
  • Review how resiliency is built on external and internal factors.

teen authors invited: become part of a powerful book project

Teens can share their story with others in a new book - YOU Make a Difference

Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Freedom Writers - that's one way to describe an exciting new project to help teenagers share their stories of making a difference.

One in Five Minds, the advocacy campaign sponsored by Clarity Child Guidance Center, has been invited to participate in a powerful book project featuring teens.

Teens will have a chance to become published authors, receive valuable training from a book publisher, and make a difference in the world - all at the same time!

The YOU Make a Difference: 50 Amazing Young People Share Their Stories of Inspiration and Transformation book project was created for teens to tell their stories. One in Five Minds has agreed to support this project for the opportunity it provides teens to answer three questions:

  1. Who has made the greatest difference in your life, and what did they do?
  2. In whose life have you made the greatest difference, and what did you do?
  3. What difference would you like to see in the world, and what are you doing to contribute to it?

Stories selected to be included in the YOU Make a Difference book will allow the teenage author to tell their story, while also protecting the identity of the families and others.

One in Five Minds was founded to raise awareness, to end stigma and to increase access to treatment for children whether or not their families can pay for it. Will you become an advocate? Learn more here.

celebrating: first clarity child guidance clinic officially opens
New clinic located at Westover Medical Park at 10431 Highway 151

Today, Thursday, January 9, a crowd made up of Clarity Child Guidance Center staff, board members, community leaders, mental health professionals and the media, looked on as the ribbon was cut for the first Clarity Child Guidance Clinic.

Clarity CGC President and CEO Fred Hines, along with Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and District 124 State Representative José Menéndez, spoke about the importance of the new Clarity Child Guidance Clinic to the west side of San Antonio and Bexar County.

The goal of the clinic is to provide quick access to a mental health professional, for children or adolescents in distress, or to evaluate and direct them to the services they need, within days, versus weeks it often takes to receive care.

Three full-time licensed therapists, a psychiatrist, nursing staff and admission and administration personnel will staff the 5,000-square-foot clinic, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Thank you to the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio,
H-E-B Tournament of Champions and the Hogg Foundation for joining us today, and for your support in opening the first Clarity Child Guidance Clinic!
