We are a nonprofit mental health treatment center providing programs designed specifically for kids ages 3-17. Our goal is to provide families throughout South Texas greater access to children's mental health care regardless of their ability to pay.

free community presentation: how trauma impacts the child       
Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, November 8 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

   

Child Abuse
Clarissa Zamora, Director of Education and Outreach for ChildSafe, will be the featured speaker for the Clarity CGC monthly community event on Friday, November 8. The topic of her presentation is "How Trauma Impacts the Child."

During this 2-hour presentation, Ms. Zamora will take a close look at how trauma impacts the development of a child, increasing the risk for emotional, behavioral, academic, social and physical problems throughout life. She will also include her own personal story. This session will also review resiliency in children and how it is built on internal and external factors.

Learning objectives for the presentation include:
  • Understanding the developmental differences when children are affected by child abuse 
  • Examining the history of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) research and attendees will calculate their own ACE and Family Strength scores 
  • Reviewing SEARCH Institute's 40 Developmental Assets, and  
  • Reviewing how resiliency is built on external and internal factors.   
The program qualifies for 2 hours of CEU credit (LPC, LMSW, NAADAC and PhD). Space is limited, so please  RSVP.

Conversation with Liza Long

Thank you to the nearly 200 people who joined us on Monday, October 14, for One in Five Minds Presents: A Conversation with Liza Long.

The event was presented by Clarity Child Guidance Center, sponsor of the One in Five Minds advocacy campaign, and the Oblate School of Theology.
   
The evening included a conversation with Liza, Q&A with a panel of experts, and words of hope and touching testimonies from the audience. To see photos from the evening click here

october 31: parenting classes       

Register to attend our English or Spanish parenting classes, on Thursday mornings or evenings     

 

A new session of parenting classes begins next week at Clarity CGC. Classes in English are held 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday mornings at our Outpatient Campus on Babcock, and 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus on Tom Slick Drive. 

 

Classes in Spanish are held Thursday mornings 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Outpatient Campus, and 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus.    

  • October 31 - Dealing with Anger and Conflict in the Family 
  • November 7 - Nurturing Children's Self-Esteem 
  • November 14 - Raising 21st Century Kids  
Cost: $5.00 per session (financial assistance available)

 

Parenting Classes
