free community presentation: optimizing the helping relationship at every stage of change
| Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, August 30 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Shawn Owens, MSN RN, and Vice President of Nursing Services at Clarity Child Guidance Center, will be the featured speaker for the Clarity CGC community monthly event on Friday, August 30. The topic of her presentation will be "Optimizing the Helping Relationship at Every Stage of Change."
During this 2-hour presentation, Ms. Owens will present how to more effectively and compassionately help yourself, clients and others. This presentation will include an overview of how adverse childhood events lead to decreased wellness in adults, and ways to overcome this reality.
Attendees will learn how to make a more powerful positive impact with trauma-informed care, the change model, and understanding therapeutic lifestyle elements for both heart and mental health. Helpers will receive practical tips on how to implement and facilitate positive change for better outcomes in all therapeutic settings.
The program qualifies for 2 hours of CEU credit (LPC, LMSW, NAADAC and PhD). Space is limited, so please RSVP. |

august 4: line up for limeade
| Please join us for Andrea's annual fundraiser for Clarity CGC!
Andrea was a little girl with a big idea back in 2002. She wanted to help the kids of Clarity CGC and decided to have a limeade stand to do it!
Andrea, now 16-years old, (seen having fun during a recent interview on KENS-5 Great Day SA) has raised thousands of dollars since 2002! This incredible amount has come in donations, toys, games and clothes for the children and adolescents receiving treatment at Clarity CGC. What a great big idea from a young lady with a great big heart!
Her 11th annual event will be held at O.P. Schnabel Park in northwest San Antonio. We invite you to take a few minutes this Sunday, August 4th, and join Andrea for her wonderful cause!
Andrea and Clarity CGC are seeking the following donated items: clothes, toys, socks, crayons, coloring books, card games, and board games. All donations should be new, have tags and be unopened. In return, you will receive a limeade, a hot dog and a bag of chips for each donation.

| August 2013 issue features doctors caring for kids at Clarity CGC
 The physicians and clinicians at Clarity Child Guidance Center are a talented group of caring mental health professionals. We frequently receive comments and compliments from parents thanking the physicians, clinicians, therapists, counselors nurses and administrative staff for their work with their children.
San Antonio Magazine took the recognition a step further and recently recognized four doctors affiliated with Clarity CGC. Steven R Pliszka, MD, Clarity CGC Medical Director Outpatient Psychiatry Services, and three SPP doctors (an independent doctor group on our campus which provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric healthcare to kids at Clarity CGC), Soad Michelsen, MD and Clarity CGC Senior Medical Director, Claudio Cepeda, MD and Graham Rogeness, MD, were named in the Best Doctors issue in San Antonio Magazine. Congratulations!
And thank you to all of our staff who are dedicated to helping heal young minds and hearts here at Clarity CGC!

august 1: parenting classes

Register to attend our English or Spanish parenting classes, on Thursday mornings or evenings
The summer session of parenting classes is underway at Clarity CGC. Classes in English are held 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday mornings at our Outpatient Campus on Babcock, and 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus on Tom Slick Drive.
Classes in Spanish are held Thursday mornings 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Outpatient Campus, and 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus.
- August 1 - Nurturing Children's Self-Esteem
- August 8 - Raising 21st Century Kids
Cost: $5.00 per session (financial assistance available)
Space is limited, and available on a first come-first seated basis
