free community presentation: children with sexual behavior problems
|
Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, May 10 from 1-3 pm
Tamara Yaktus, PhD and LMFT, will be the featured speaker for the Clarity CGC community monthly event on Friday, May 10. The topic of her presentation will be "Children with Sexual Behavior Problems."
During this 2-hour presentation, Dr. Yaktus will define sexual behaviors of children ages 2 to 12, along continuums and in context, as well as review expected and problematic behavior. Her training objectives are to identify: - General criteria used for defining expected versus problematic sexual behaviors in children.
- Factors that are associated with sexual behavior problems in children.
- The basic issues in appropriate assessment and treatment.
- That caregivers are primary agents of change for sexual behavior problems in children

Two of San Antonio's leading child advocacy, non-profit agencies have joined together to host the first Children's Summit!
Join us on June 24th & 25th, as Clarity Child Guidance Center and ChildSafe host this two-day conference on children's mental health and child abuse at the El Tropicano Riverwalk. We will have nationally-known speakers and thought-provoking presentations. Lunches and snacks will also be included with your paid registration.
The keynote and luncheon speakers for this 2-day conference are:
- Monday, 6/24 Keynote - Dennis Embry, Ph.D. - Prevention scientist, licensed psychologist and president of the PAXIS Institute of Tucson, AZ.
- Monday, 6/24 Luncheon - Storyteller Pete Earley - 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Crazy: A Father's Search Through America's Mental Health Madness.
- Tuesday, 6/25 Keynote - Jennifer Schuett - Victim advocate and victorious survivor, and co-recipient of TAASA's 2010 "Champions for Social Change" award.
- Tuesday, 6/25 Luncheon - William P. Young - Author of the NY Times Bestseller, The Shack.
Several other notable child abuse and mental health professionals will deliver workshops and presentations on both days.
The 2-day conference qualifies for 12 hours of CEU credit (CE, CLE, CME, LCDC, LCSW, LMSW, LPC, PhD, RN & TCLEOSE). Space is limited, so please register early. Early Bird 2-day Individual Rate: $265/person. Group 2-day Rate (Min. 8 in Group): $225/person.

National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day
is next week! It's sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is Thursday, May 9.
The Center for Health Care Services will commemorate Child and Adolescent Mental Health Awareness Day on May 9 at Mission County Park 2, 7675 Padre, San Antonio, TX 78214.
The event is from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., and will include activities for the whole family, including a rally, resources and a performance by Texas recording artist Gary Ritchey.
Please make plans to support this important annual event. Click here for resources to help you commemorate the day and join organizations across the country to promote awareness about important children's mental health matters and how positive mental health is essential to a child's healthy development from birth.

Register to attend our English or Spanish parenting classes, on Thursday mornings or evenings
Clarity CGC will begin the next series of parenting classes on Thursday, May 2. Classes in English will be held 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday mornings at our Outpatient Campus on Babcock, and 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus on Tom Slick Drive.
Classes in Spanish will be held Thursday mornings 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Outpatient Campus, and 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus.
- May 2 - Creating a Healthy Family
- May 9 - Communication Within the Family
- May 16 - Establishing Authority as a Parent and Using Effective Discipline Techniques
- May 23 - Dealing with Anger and Conflict in the Family
- May 30 - Nurturing Children's Self-Esteem
- June 6 - Raising 21st Century Kids
Cost: $5.00 per session (financial assistance available)
