free community presentation: child sexual abuse: how to listen and what to look for

Free community presentation is scheduled for Friday, April 12 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Mental health professionals are frequently faced with the reality of child sexual abuse. On Friday, April 12, Nancy Kellogg, MD, professor, Division of Child Abuse, University of Texas Health Science Center, will provide important information during her presentation, "Child Sexual Abuse: How to Listen and What to Look for." Dr. Kellogg will be the featured speaker for the Clarity Child Guidance Center April community event.
The objectives for this 2-hour presentation are to:
- Enhance understanding of why abused children are reluctant to tell.
- Enhance understanding of what abusers do to ensure their victims remain silent.
- Enhance knowledge of how to talk to a child when sexual abuse is suspected.
This program qualifies for 2 hours of CEU credit (LPC, LMSW, NAADAC and PhD). Space is limited to please RSVP.

march 28: join us online for the launch of one in five minds

Free community launch event will be live streamed Thursday, March 28 from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on NOWCastSA
On Thursday, March 28, nearly 200 parents, educators, business people, mental health professionals, and concerned citizens from around our community will join us for the introduction of One in Five Minds.
This special launch event will take place at the Valero Corporate Headquarters and include a keynote address from Judge Nelson Wolff and comments from US Representative Joaquin Castro. A panel of mental health professionals will also be on hand to discuss how children's mental health issues affect different segments of our community.
This event will be livestreamed, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on NOWCastSA. Even if you're unable to attend the event in person, you can still watch it online as it's taking place. Please join us! We invite you to link to the webcast by connecting here.

Generous gift from St Luke's Lutheran Health Ministries to fund additional day treatment for children
Vicki Boyce, Executive Director of St Luke's Lutheran Health Ministries, recently presented Clarity Child Guidance Center President and CEO Fred Hines with a check to support our day treatment program.We project nearly 300 children will be treated through our day (partial) treatment program this year.
Organizations like St Luke's Lutheran Health Ministries are essential (and appreciated!) partners that help Clarity CGC continue to provide effective mental health treatment to children who are not covered by insurance.

Register to attend our English or Spanish parenting classes, now on Thursday mornings or evenings
Clarity CGC began a new semester of parenting classes on Thursday, March 21. Classes in English will be held 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday mornings at our Outpatient Campus on Babcock, and 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus on Tom Slick Drive.
Classes in Spanish will be held Thursday mornings 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Outpatient Campus, and 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday evenings at the Main Campus.
- March 28 - Communication Within the Family
- April 4 - Establishing Authority as a Parent and Using Effective Discipline Techniques
- April 11 - Dealing with Anger and Conflict in the Family
- April 18 - Nurturing Children's Self-Esteem
- April 25 - Raising 21st Century Kids
Cost: $5.00 per session (financial assistance available)
