Greetings!

Welcome to Run Your Own Race.

It's a beautiful day outside finally! What have you been up to? The change in the weather got me thinking about how change can impact on our lives. People are happier when it's sunny. But what makes people smile? What motivates people to go out and do things they wouldn't ordinarily do?

This issue is all about motivation. How we can not only motivate others, but also how we can motivate ourselves to achieve what we want, so read on and find out more. It only takes 2 minutes!

How To Be Happier
In a coffee shop last week, a friend was chatting to another about her current job - "I'm so fed up where I am. I've been there for 5 years, I haven't been promoted and nothing's going to change. What can I do?"

Her friend duly listened supportively and offered options such as "Why don't you look for another job?" The unhappy employee then came up with a list of reasons as to why she couldn't do that. "I can't find anything that's right" or "I don't have the experience." Click to continue...

Blue Angel album 'Departures'
Some of you may know that when I'm not coaching, I like making music and Blue Angel is my latest project.

Our new album 'Departures' is out 20 May on Itunes/Spotify and there is a new single '43 Days' out on Monday 29 April.

We also have some gigs coming up starting with 22 May at the Dublin Castle in Camden. On stage 8pm. So, if you fancy a night out, then come along.

You can also watch our videos, listen to songs and catch up on all the latest news (inc a few good reviews we've had already) at:

Why Should I? I Don't Want To!
'Why should I? I don't want to!' said a teenage girl protesting to her mother earlier today in a shopping centre. It looked like they were clothes shopping for the daughter. Maybe the mother wanted to get something that the girl didn't think was cool enough. Hardly an unusual situation perhaps but it got me thinking about the word 'should'. It is a word people often use - I really should go to the gym, I should go and visit my parents or I should spend more time with my family. But do we really mean it?

Yay. Homework!!!

What if we changed the word 'should' to 'want'? We would then have - I  really want to go to the gym, I want to go and visit my parents or I want to  spend more time with my family.

There is a greater level of commitment in the person speaking and as a  result, it is more likely to happen. 'Should' is doing things for other people  whether you want to or not. Of course, we have to manage different things  in our lives, but what's really stopping you doing something for you?

Not when you 'should', but when you want to...
