Halloween Safety Tips
The Lake County Sheriff's Office has been working with residents, schools and the Highway Patrol to help prepare for a safe Halloween. Find out more about what you can do to help promote your own safety.

Roadside Safety Check & Halloween Patrols
Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. To help keep residents safe, the Lake County Sheriff's Office will be implementing a roadside safety check and additional Halloween patrols. The Roadside Safety Check is scheduled for Oct. 25, 11 p.m. - 3 a.m. at an undisclosed area and is designed to keep the road safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit received a total of 917 calls for service, handled 12 accident reports, and responded to a record low of one fatality during the 2014 season. The Marine Unit also conducted 642 safety boardings, 568 traffic stops (resulting in 331 issued citations), 54 operating under the influence arrests, and conducted 84 business checks.

During the season which ran from April to Oct. 11, the Marine Unit operated 4 days a week with a total of 15 Marine Unit Deputies despite being the coldest and wettest seasons in the last 10 years. This increased enforcement along with the responsibility of boat operators contributed to the safety on the waterways in Lake County this year, making this one of the lowest injury seasons dating back to 2007.
