State Law Targets Property Owners Receiving an Erroneous Tax Break New state law (effective June 1, 2014) gives the Chief County Assessment Office authority to recapture taxable value in instances where property owners have received homestead benefits erroneously. Lake County is providing an amnesty period for the remaining months of 2014 in order to gain compliance. More Information.

Kids 1st Health Fair, August 6  Bring school aged children to the Kids 1st Health Fair for free physical exams, immunizations and dental checks are available at this annual event for qualifying families. Receive information about healthy practices from nutritionists, foot and shoe assessments, and healthy food from Northern Illinois Food Bank. Land Buy to Close Gap in Des Plaines River Trail
Lake County Forest Preserves Board of Commissioners recently approved a small land purchase that will connect a break in the Des Plaines River Trail and will allow it to stretch from Russell Road just south of the Wisconsin border to Lake Cook Road, where it connects to the Cook County Forest Preserve trail system. More
100 Year PlanRecently, a 100 year plan was approved by the Lake County Forest Preserve District. The plan will preserve a sustainable Lake County natural landscape and extend community outreach and education efforts.
