BLACK HISTORY LITTLE KNOWN FACTS

As a child Muhammad Ali was refused an autograph by his idol, boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. When Ali became a prize-fighter, he vowed never to deny an autograph request, which he has honored to this day.
Muhammad Ali the self-proclaimed "greatest [boxer] of all time" was originally named after his father, who was named after the 19th century abolitionist and politician Cassius Marcellus Clay.
Allensworth is the only California community to be founded, financed and governed by African-Americans. Created by Allen Allensworth in 1908, the town was built with the intention of establishing a self-sufficient, all-black city where African-Americans could live their lives free of racial discrimination.

In the Ministry Spotlight
The Children's Ministry
Serving 1st - 6th Graders

The Children's Ministry, a division of the Children & Youth Ministry (CYM), is comprised of 4 leaders that serve under interim Youth Pastor, Min. Andre Dodson. They work together to serve, teach and equip children in 1st - 6th grade. Their ministry logo is KYDS - Kings Young Disciples, which is supported by Matthew 28:20, Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always. (KJV)
Through the ministry, Bible Study classes are offered each Wednesday in the Youth Education Building from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Every first through fourth Sunday, they offer Sunday School at 9:00 am, followed by Children's Church at 10:00 am, on the 2nd floor of the main church building...fifth Sundays are set aside as Family Connection Sunday and the children are encouraged to sit with their families in the main sanctuary.
There are a host of great teachers, helpers and volunteers who willingly take time out to teach the children to follow God's plan of salvation for their lives, and the importance of being saved and living for Christ.
The children, while being taught biblical principles, are also able to participate in Praise and Worship from 10:00 am - 10:30 am, led by Ms. Stephanie Godbee and her team. Instructional teaching time is from 10:30 am until church service is over. During their time in class, the children are exposed to a variety of fun-filled games, wonderful creative arts and crafts, various audio and computer generated lessons that help bring God's word to life; and are provided a light snack.
As the ministry grows, they find that they are still in need of dedicated volunteers willing to be trained, and have a passion for working with young children. Led by Wanda Goodrich, the various teams help promote learning, praising and enforcing the word of God to our children. Below is their current volunteer count by category:
5 - Sunday School Teachers and 1 Substitute Teacher
9 - Children's Church Teachers
6 - Children's Church Teacher Helpers
6 - Wednesday Bible Study Teachers
1- Administration Sign-In Team Leader and other Helpers as assigned
If you would like to be a part of a fast growing ministry and love shaping the lives of God's children, please pray about joining the Children's Ministry. You are welcome to stop by at any time to see the wonderful and exciting things the ministry is doing, and know that they would love to have you come on board.
