New Members Ministry

"For the perfecting of the saints, for the edifying of the body or Christ."
 Ephesians 4:12

The New Members Ministry is a vital part of Mt. Zion Progressive.  Led by Deacon Ronnie Marshall, and consisting of 23 volunteers, they are here to welcome new members to the Mt. Zion family.  Their main goal is to ensure new members become integrated within the church body, grow toward spiritual maturity and help draw others to Jesus Christ.  After joining Mt. Zion, a Spiritual Parent is assigned to each person, which is key to their new Christian journey.  The spiritual parent is there to provide guidance and encouragement, and answer any questions the new member may have.

When individuals join Mt. Zion, we provide Christian Basics classes, an orientation into Christian principles, doctrine and assurances of God's word, and how to become His true disciple.  Classes are held Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, on the 3rd floor, and Monday evenings at 7:00 PM on the second floor.  In addition, several times a year we offer an all-in-one day, where all classes can be taken on a Saturday.  At the completion of the course, our new members participate in the right-hand of fellowship; a ceremony to officially welcome them into the Mt. Zion family.

One of the greatest accomplishments of the New Members Ministry is seeing members grow in faith and commitment by joining other ministries.  In the past year new members such as Denise Barnes, Sharon Carter, Elaine Chambliss, Dwaimeon "Chico" Jordan, Faith McPherson and Onekki Christian, have become active participants in the Family Touch Team, Usher Board, New Membership, Praise Dance, and Choir ministries, respectively.

Our goal for 2013 is to move members from the crowd to the core; and to host the Right-Hand of Fellowship and the "All-in-One" Day, more frequently.  We are working with leadership to become an intricate part of the 85th Anniversary Celebration.  At the January 26th follow-up leadership workshop we brainstormed ideas for a church yearbook, and ways to get more members actively participating in ministry.

If you would like more information on the New Members Ministry, on Christian Basics classes, or if you are ready to upgrade from visitor to member; please contact Deacon Ronnie Marshall at 727-894-4311 ext. 809.  You are also welcomed to stop by the new membership room following the 10 AM service...located in the back (right-corner) of the sanctuary.
