Why do we associate January 1st with new beginnings? Why have only one day affiliated with a fresh start? Why not everyday? Why not every moment?
We can begin anew at any time; in every moment is the potential for new possibilities.
Getting a fresh start is like sweeping your front walk, there is a cleanliness, a refreshed look, a new energy. Sweeping old, stagnant energy out allows a new active, vibrant energy to flow in. It brings back the enthusiasm, the sparkle, and positive shine that brightens and reenergizes all that see it. It can be as simple as a new haircut, buying a new dress or suit, painting a room, or putting on a smile.
Whatever it is that brings that lightness to your life, it makes you feel good, puts a spring in your step, and a twinkle in your eyes. It gives you the vivacity to see things in a new and positive spiritedness.
There is a new zing, pop, and pizzaz for the face of The Yoga Teacher, LLC as well. My new website (done by Visual Flavors ~ thank you Trine and Karim!) has given me new vigor. I am happy to once again tell people to 'check out my new website' because I am so pleased with how it looks. It is current, clean, and animated, just what was needed!
So, please, "check out my new website". See what you think. I think you will like the fresh face of my website as much as I do!

| Rib-Tickler of the Week - hee hee |
If at first you don't succeed,
skydiving is not for you.
|
| Mantra | |
A mantra is a sound or phrase that aids in the concentration of meditation. It is a Sanskrit term and literally means 'instrument of thought'. Here you will find a suggested mantra to use during the week (from Louise Hay's 'Heal Your Body'). Just repeat it whenever you need a lift.
I move forward with confidence and ease. I trust and flow with the process of life. |

Yoga for Stability
|
The muscles on our outer thighs and hips are one of the most important to strengthen and develop for relief from low back, knee, and hip pain. This week we focus on the extensor fascia latae, gluteus medius, and IT band, three major components of the anatomy that aid us in our balance, alignment of our hips and knees, and brings stability to the pelvis and spine.
As a society we sit too much. Notice when you are sitting or driving how your knees flop out to the side, this is a sign that you have weak lateral hip muscles. They work in tandem with the inner thigh muscles (the adductors) to keep us strong, steady, and relaxed in our movements.
There are many poses that will help with strengthening this area but we first must work on lengthening them. In stretching the muscles to release their pull on other muscles of the back and legs, we can then reestablish where the core of our body really is (the solar plexus) and begin to move from there. Then by strengthening them we can maintain this new found freedom permanently.
In my video above are some very basic poses that you can do to begin the strategy of relaxing and then strengthening these influential anatomy. You will be able to feel them immediately, please go slow, feel your way through the poses, breathe into them, and begin the change that will bring a fresh start to your posture and body.

Nutrition Prescription - Oil of Oregano
|
Oil of Oregano is a powerhouse for our alternative medicine cabinet. The type of oregano that they are talking about is not the kind that you would find in your garden, that plant is actually a marjoram. It is the wild oregano (origanum vulgare) that was first found in the mountainous regions of Greece, Turkey, and Italy that is referred to for its medicinal advantages. Oregano means 'Mountain Joy' (in the bible it was known as hyssop).
As stated in NaturalNews.com 'Oregano Oil is an extraordinarily powerful natural anti-biotic. Oregano has been found in a recent study to be significantly better than all of the 18 currently used antibiotics in the treatment of MRSA staph infections. The strong phenol anti-oxidants destroy pathogenic bacteria, viruses and yeasts'. The USDA ranks oregano's antioxidant capacity anywhere from 3 to 20 times higher than any other herb. Pretty powerful stuff!
What makes it so powerful, you ask? Oregano oil contains four main groups of chemicals that contribute to its potent healing powers. Phenols act as antiseptics and antioxidants. Terpenes exhibit antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anesthetic properties. Long-chain alcohols add to the antiviral and antiseptic qualities and Esters are anti-fungal agents.
Its effectiveness is largely attributed to its primary ingredient, a phenol named carvacrol. In tests done at Georgetown University, it was found to be more effective than penicillin, streptomycin and even vancomycin. As always, never substitute using an herb as an alternative to seeing your doctor if you are sick. A word of caution: you can use too much of this herb, so less is more if you take it. Also it is suggested that you do not take it if your are taking 3 or more types of prescription drugs, or drink excessive amounts of alcohol, for it may overload your livers function.
Here's a cool bit of data: bacteria, viruses and fungi are able to change form in the body as a result of changing chemistry within the body. This is known as pleomorphism (think of it as shape shifting). Oregano oil is deadly to all types of pathogens; it can continue to be effective, no matter what form they assume. Good news!
Do be careful as to where you get your Oil of Oregano because due to standardization it's effectiveness could be lessened. I found CuringHerbs.com as I was searching this amazing herb and it seems that they have a very good quality product. I ordered one and will let you know how it works if you ask.
Until the 1940's (when pencillin began to be prescribed) natural compounds were what were dispensed for infections and illness. The book 'The Cure is in the Cupboard' by Dr. Cass Ingram explains the benefits of Wild Oil of Oregano and how to use it.
There is so much more written about this herb and what it can do than I could possibly write about here. For it to have been so highly acclaimed and used for centuries I am thinking that there must be something to its medicinal purposes. Please check it out for yourself. It seems that with just a few drops of this curative herb from nature you can give your body a fresh start and begin to feel more healthful, sparkly, and new. It's worth a try!
Check out this video of Dr. Oz's show that gives a great visual explanation of how oil of oregano works.

Ponderings - A Fresh Start
|
Life, business, relationships can be good or bad or anything in between. We can be cruising along enjoying how our life is going and then something happens to change our perspective and we have to adjust. It could be anything, inside or outside of us, that effects this change and there is nothing that can be done but to accept and flow and follow the course of our journey on to the next adventure, the next fresh start. If we resist and try to hold onto the old ways we only cause ourselves and others pain.
I re-invented my new website when my much-loved graphic designer was called to dedicate more time to her blog. As much as I understood having a passion that speaks to your heart, I didn't want to have to change so I resisted until I finally had to agree that it was time to move forward.
Starting anything new requires a lot of hard work, patience, focus, and a good sense of humor. It is a tedious process that will test you multiple times, not only you but your loved ones too. It's much like being a baby that is just learning to walk, tottering all over the place, falling down, and picking yourself up and trying again. Until that one day when you finally begin to get the hang of things and you are once again loving life.
How one arrives at the point of change in their lives doesn't really matter, it's how you move forward. To make a fresh start we first have to have a positive mindset. Seeing things as an opportunity to improve and experience new things allows you to enjoy things that you didn't even dream of before.
In choosing to start fresh often means that we need others help, especially if we don't have the skills or knowledge needed to accomplish our goals. Finding the right people to help you is key. In this you need to trust in Spirit to lead you to those that have your best interests at heart, to be open to new ideas and take chances. Accepting others ideas and suggestions, trusting their abilities, and knowing when to stand your ground is a fine balance and you must just trust your instincts and follow your heart.
It can be scary when you start anything new. You want to do your very best, for it embodies all of your hard work, heart and soul. Once you make the commitment and take that first baby step, doors begin to open to you, things come into your realm that you hadn't noticed before, novel ideas pop into your head, and a whole new course of action becomes feasible.
Getting a fresh start invigorates the soul! It lifts you up and sends you forward in life with a new outlook that is full of possibilities! Whatever it change that is required in your life, don't hesitate, go at it with abandon, know that it was meant to be to move you along into your next phase of this adventure we call Life.

Life is a jumble of experiences that we all bumble through. It doesn't come with instructions and we all do the best that we can do. One thing we can all
do for ourselves and each other is to listen to our hearts and do what is right for us. From there everyone can make the right decision to do what is right for themselves and all things will fall into place. Change feels like wearing shoes that are too small for you. If you don't take them off you'll get blisters and pain, but when you allow yourself a fresh start on your journey of life with shoes that fit then road ahead will once again look bright!
Thank you!
Hugs and Namaste,
