| Greetings! |
When you think of something of value what do you think of? Is it something material? Is it something that costs a lot of money? Last week I talked about valuing our time. It got me to thinking 'What do I consider valuable?'. Well, time, yes, that is valuable, and then I thought what makes it valuable? It's the fact that we can't replace time. Once it's gone it's gone. So what else is in that category? People, most especially good friends and family whom you love and are loved by. Freedom, security, and working towards a life goal (or having a job that you love). What about yourself? Did you add yourself to the list?
The commonality to all of these things is their irreplaceability. Money and what it can buy is replaceable. If a person loses a fortune, they can make it back again. A house, a car, a job... all replaceable. It is not the same for the things that truly matter. Begin to notice what you value. Where do you put your thoughts and energy? What is important to you? Once you figure this out, the answer to these questions will begin to transform your life.

Broadening in Yoga Poses
| Broadening our bodies is not exactly what most people aspire to do. All the ads on TV market how being smaller makes us somehow better. So we draw in our hips, feet, stomach, and shoulders to appear narrower, slimmer, and more slender.
As we are doing all of these slenderizing techniques we are hurting ourselves by losing our core strength. When the core is strong we have more vigor, power, and better balance. We appear thinner, are more aligned (thus are joints are healthy), and we can manage stressful situations with more confidence.
First, you need a good foundation. Wear shoes that allow your toes to spread and your feet to broaden. Go barefoot as much as possible. Rub your feet on a tennis ball or FootRubz. Get the muscles on your feet to work, broaden, and lengthen the toes. It will bring strength to your legs.
Second, move your sitz bones apart. Broaden your hips. Think of our hips in the shape of an upside-down heart. As you are sitting reading this: sit on the outer hips, move the inner thighs apart, and let the tailbone relax down even as you keep it off the chair. You will feel your hips broaden and your core tone. Keep breathing. ;-)
Third, broaden your collarbones as you hug your elbows into the waist. Let your arms fall out of the shoulder sockets and close to the body. Deepen the armpits. Move the shoulder blades apart. (Notice the opposite actions of hugging elbows in as you move the shoulder blades apart). This action will lift the ribs up and out of the waist and support the head.
These three actions will begin to strengthen, broaden, and stabilize your body. You will stand taller, breathe better, and feel more confident. It takes practice and strengthening of the muscles to support these actions so that become your new habit. The value that you gain in working towards better health, strength, and alignment is well worth it.

| Mantra | |
A mantra is a sound or phrase that aids in the concentration of meditation. It is a Sanskrit term and literally means 'instrument of thought'. Here you will find a suggested mantra to use during the week (from Louise Hay's 'Heal Your Body'). Just repeat it whenever you need a lift.
I now choose to support myself in loving, joyous ways.

| Rib-Tickler of the Week - hee hee |
After dying in a car crash, three friends find themselves at an orientation to enter heaven. Each one was asked, "When you are in your casket, what would you like to hear your friends and family saying about you? Sean says "I would like to hear them say I was a great doctor and a great family man." Karl says "I would like them to say I was a wonderful husband and an excellent teacher who made a difference in children's lives." Oscar says "I would like to hear them say..."Look! He's moving!"

Nutrition Prescription - Natural Antibiotics
|
Sir Isaac Fleming discovered the mold Penicillium notatum, and it's anti-bacterial power, back in 1928. Since that time people have been prescribed this natural healing agent for many different illnesses. After all who wants to risk a bacterial infection if it can be avoided? As with most anything, though, moderation is the key. Unfortunately that was not what happened. The overuse of antibiotics has now caused major problems developing super-bugs that are impervious to the medicine and now require stronger, high-risk drugs with more dangerous side effects. We all have taken antibiotics at some point in our lives because they are good for what they do. Now, though, many of us don't want to jump on the antibiotic bandwagon each time we get an infection or sore throat. We want our natural immune system to get a workout. You see, antibiotics don't know the difference between bad bacteria and the good bacteria that we need to fight off infection and digest our food. It kills both and puts us in compromising health positions. So what to do? Well, the pencillium mold that Sir Fleming discovered isn't the only natural antibiotic that nature has made. Luckily, there are several! They are in food sources that you probably all ready have in your kitchen. Lemon, ginger, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper are some spices that aid in healing when you have an infection. Garlic and onions are superb natural antibiotics (I sprinkle some on my salads). Manuka honey is an antibiotic that can be placed directly on a wound to help it heal. Goldenseal and Echinacea are antibiotic herbs that can be taken in capsule, powder form, or tea. Essential oils are the most powerful support you can use to help keep you healthy. Oregano Oil, Grapefruit Seed extract, Tea Tree, and Mountain Savory are just some of the essential oils that have anti-microbial properties and can be used by mixing with another oil and rubbed on the body. (When I was a nurse I wore Geranium essential oil everyday as a scent. I rarely was sick.) Read the story of the thieves who survived the bubonic plague, due to the essential oils they wore. Lastly, colloidal silver, though it also kills both good and bad bacteria, is an effective antibiotic that has been used for centuries, just don't take too much as it can turn your skin a blueish color. With regular antibiotics and the colloidal silver, take probiotics afterwards to replace the good bacteria in your gut. One down-side to natural antibiotics is that they seem to take longer to work. In this instant-gratification world, where we can't be laid up too long, that can be a problem. In truth, prescriptions tend to hide symptoms, so though you are still sick you just don't feel like it, and your infection can still be thriving as you get back to living. This is often why after a round of antibiotics you end up sick again. You never gave your body the time it needs to heal completely. Natural medicine allows the infection to leave your body quicker - which means you may feel sick longer but you will be truly well when given time. Of course, the best action is not to get sick at all. Just by using the natural medicines above a little everyday will help you to keep your immune system functioning and aiding in fighting those 'bad' bacteria before they ever get planted in your anatomy in the first place. Now that is truly valuable! The Health Gazette

Ponderings - What Do You Value?
|
What is valuable to you? When you first consider the word valuable you might think of things that cost a lot of money - mansions, yachts, expensive cars. Or maybe you think of the things that have more of an emotional feeling attached to them - family, freedom, your life's dream.
As I puzzled over this question I began to realize that all of those things did cost something. For some we spend money to get them, for the others, though in a sense didn't cost money, they were not free - they still had to be earned.
As human beings we put more value on things that we pay a lot of money for or have labored to get. We take for granted the things that are absolutely free. What are these things?
Take for example your mind. It can read this newsletter, compute, reason, and be coached to positively focus on the realization of your dreams. It is one of the most important gifts we are to be thankful for, yet we rarely count that as one of our blessings. It was free, standard equipment when we were born. We didn't have to earn it or pay for it, so we take it for granted. Yet, used effectively, it can be our greatest asset in creating the life that we want.
Our minds, our souls, our hopes, our dreams, our ambitions, our intelligence, our love, our talents, and life's purpose all are free, they came with us. These things that were given to us for nothing we place little value on. We don't even notice them or give them the significance they deserve. We often don't use them to their utmost ability. We might even give up on them without even listening to them or trying to make them a reality.
All of these things make up your life. So the question is then "Do you value your life?" Your life is free. Your life is a gift. YOU ARE THE GIFT! Do you value yourself? Believe in yourself? In your dreams or life's purpose? We each have a gift to share with our fellow travelers on this planet - did you give up on yours simply because you didn't want to be different? Begin to see what truly is of value in this world. It is in each of us. It IS each of us. It is you, just as you are.
Use your mind, use your talents - whatever they might be. Let your hopes / dreams / inspirations guide you, follow them, listen to them, trust in them. Life is an exciting adventure. Be alive in it!
Bring the love, light, grace, beauty, and truth of who you are out into the world. You are your only true lamp, and only we can light each others way. So look inside yourself, appreciate what you find there, and you'll embark on a new journey with a clear understanding of what is truly valuable.

|
Ultimately it comes down to valuing yourself. Bringing the best YOU that you can be and sharing your gifts with the world. It's about honoring yourself. Believing in yourself. Being bowled over that you get to be you! You ARE the gift and you have something special to bring to this world. Life with all it's accoutrements is free. Begin, now, to value every moment of it. Namaste,
