| Greetings! | Sometimes being in the flow of life is not very easy. We all want our lives to be less stressful, unchallenging, and fun. At times though we find ourselves in situations that are just frustrating! When we come into contact with others that are rude, self-absorbed, and hurtful we can at times lose our faith in humanity. What to do? How to handle these trying circumstances, especially when they catch us off guard? Think of your life as a river. When a boulder or log falls into your flow it first causes a big splash, then things quieten down and you learn to go around the obstacle, move it out of your way, or gently wear it down. It's handling that initial splash that most of us need to cultivate a more serene response to. It's all in our perspective. I'm always looking for different ways of changing my perspective to allow the 'splashes' in my life be less jolting and reactionary and more peaceable. In my Ponderings today I'll tell you about one that I use. |
| Mantra | |
A mantra is a sound or phrase that aids in the concentration of meditation. It is a Sanskrit term and literally means 'instrument of thought'. Here you will find a suggested mantra to use during the week (from Louise Hay's 'Heal Your Body'). Just repeat it whenever you need a lift.
I am filled with joy. It flows through me with every beat of my heart. |
| Rib-Tickler of the Week - hee hee | |

| Gentle Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) |
Flowing through life is much like the Sun Salutation. Natural, fluid breathing advancing us from one movement to another with as much gracefulness as we can muster. It is a work in progress, much like ourselves. Always finding ways to improve it, noticing obstacles in our alignment, bringing learning, strength, and acceptance.
Some find it delicious to do first thing in the morning, others experience it as a de-stressor at the end of their day. It matters not when you do it, just do it, make the time. You will be surprised how this simple sequence of poses will begin to change your body, your attitude, and your perspective.
Start with 3 rounds every other day for one week, then 3 rounds every day for the second week, now 5 rounds the third week, and finally 10 rounds the fourth week.
See how you feel at the end of the month. By then you'll be feeling so good you won't want to stop. You'll just keep going with the flow...of the Sun Salutation.

| Nutrition Prescription - Hydrogen Peroxide | |
Hydrogen peroxide can be found in all living cells of the body, the ability of our cells to make it is essential to life itself. It is part of the flow of life within our bodies.
In Nature magazine they featured a study that found that hydrogen peroxide plays a part in our immune system by acting as a signal to the white blood cells to converge on the site and initiate healing. The white blood cells make hydrogen peroxide to oxidize and destroy harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
It is found in our rain water, which makes it more effective than plain tap water for our plants. With increased air pollution though it doesn't make it to the ground any longer which is why many farmers are now spraying their plants with a diluted formula of hydrogen peroxide. You can use it on your plants too by adding one ounce of the 3% solution to every quart of water. It can also be used as a safe insecticide spray by mixing 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide with 8 ounces of white sugar and one gallon of water.
You can add hydrogen peroxide to your laundry to help whiten clothes. It is particularly effective on getting blood stains out of your clothes. It is a bleaching agent so use caution on colored clothing.
I use it as a mouthwash once a week. I also keep a cup of it in my medicine cabinet and place my toothbrush in it to kill the bacteria. I regularly use it in my ears to remove wax build up to heal a sore throat. In fact at the hint of feeling soreness in my throat, or when I get a cough, I use it to clean out my ears and am able to often avoid getting sick during the winter months.
I also use it on my kitchen counters by mixing it in a spray bottle with vinegar and a little table salt to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi. To clean my bathrooms I mix it with a little baking soda (I love the reaction the two make together ~ a great way to get the kids to clean too!).
Many wastewater treatment plants are now converting to hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine to kill a variety of pollutants (they use a stronger grade). There are different grades of hydrogen peroxide; the high-test version can even be used as a propellant in rocketry! The medical grade of 3% is available in most drug stores and what people use the most.
It's to your advantage to use hydrogen peroxide because it is a natural substance. You can exchange it for all of the nasty chemicals that are in cleaning products for a safer home. You can help the environment by reducing your use of chlorine (Clorox). It might also help reduce the use of antibiotics if it can help you stay healthy.
Check it out and see how many ways you can integrate hydrogen peroxide into your life.

| Ponderings - In the Flow of Life |
The frustrations in life are just that...frustrating! What can we do when people are rude, inconsiderate, and hurtful - sometimes on purpose! We can't change what occurred or the people whose actions are jostling our heart's Spirit; at times we can't even vindicate ourselves such as when we are the target of road rage. What often happens is we become reactive and respond back to the insulter with the same attitude that was given us. Instead, can we step back and change our viewpoint?
From all of my research on how to deal with situations such as these it seems that it comes down to our perspective, what it means to us, and how we feel about ourselves at the time.
One of the ways that I found to change the way I view a person who is being challenging, was to see them as 'emotionally disabled'. For instance, if someone who was mentally disabled did or said something rude to you you would not take it personally because you would realize that they may not understand their actions because of their disability. Well, you can do the same for others that create an unwelcome 'splash' in your flow of life. Everyone on the planet has temporary emotional disabilities, some are just not as obvious as others. The more you can see the people who obstruct your flow as disabled, the easier it is to not get caught up in a reactive behavior (perhaps it even allows you to have empathy for them).
It's not that we are justifying their actions, rather we change what their actions mean to us.(That is a topic for another ponderings though.) If possible do hold people accountable for their actions by addressing the incident with calm respect. Let them know in a kind and firm way how you are to be treated. If this does not work then walk away and remove yourself from the aversive environment.
If I find myself ruminating about the event over and over again, I send them thanks, for they were sent into my life so that I could face something within myself for healing. Blessings are often disguised as obstacles in our life. I then turn within and begin to ask questions of myself like: why did this upset me so or what does it mean to me? I see it as a chance to change my perspective and to use this as building blocks from which to grow.
Life has its easy times and times full of challenges. Our eternal work is to become the best that we can be. There will be times when we are the emotionally disabled one. Be patient, love yourself through the process and you'll find you'll be able to love others through life as well.

What is going with the flow? It's the ability to roll with the punches, it's accepting what is happening in any given moment without getting angry or frustrated. Obstacles disrupting the flow of your life are going to happen. To keep your sanity change your perspective about them. It does takes practice, fortunately life gives us many opportunities to do this! When you can look at things as though everything that happens in your life is in your favor, even the challenges, you will truly begin to see the beauty of just how life flows.
Namaste,
