Magnets Are Hot!
We heard a lot of buzz about magnets from conservators at the American Institute for Conservation's 2015 annual meeting in Miami. Magnets provide fantastic holding strength, reduce or eliminate the need for pinning, and provide an alternative to the velcro that has long-been used to support textiles and other materials.  Here's how we've been using them...

Introducing the Super Panel

ersatile panel for pinning and magnets

Ever wished there was an exhibit panel that's presentable, durable, pinnable and magnet-receptive?  Now there is.  Our Super Panel is sized to your specifications. It's a 7/8" thick sandwich of archival materials - a rigid dibond backer, powdercoated perforated steel to accept magnets, 9# ethafoam for pinning (through the holes in the steel) and your choice of archival linens.  It can be framed or it can stand alone on cleats.  This makes for a versatile presentation panel that can be used for just about anything, eliminating the need to order/install new exhibit materials over and over again.

Call and we can discuss the details.

Magnet Slats at AIC

Gwen Spicer shared her thoughts on magnet slats at AIC in Miami.   For those who don't know, our magnet slats are a simple alternative to pinning or velcro-hanging textiles.  Just attach an aluminum angle outfitted with magnets to the wall.

Then sew a thin strip of steel in a sleeve to the back of the textile.  Mate the steel strip to the magnet slat and Voila! A presentation that's simple to install, safe for the object and won't slide or droop.

In the News

Oh Yeah...One more thing
Remember our last issue? I wrote about our ability to glue 6mm  Optium Museum Acrylic end to end to make extra large sheets for glazing very large pieces of art?

I should have mentioned, we can do the same with 1/4" thick clear and UV-filtering acrylic. Way lighter than glass...giant framing has never been so exciting (or easy on your back)!

Good Times in Miami

Tropical Breezes and Art Conservation

We had a great time exhibiting at AIC in Miami in May.  Thanks to all who stopped by to chat and say hello. It's always great to see so many friends and customers. It's even better that so many of you belong to both categories!

While we were there, we got to take a few side trips, to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens for a moonlight tour, and HistoryMiami where we saw the complete Audubon Birds of America show.
Framers Love

Short Lead Times
We're down to 2 - 3 weeks for welded aluminum picture frames, 3 weeks for acrylics, and under 4 weeks for most everything. Bring on the orders, we're ready!

Archival Backing Board
We just brought in a new truckload of our archival fluted polypropylene backer (alternative to Coroplast) in 4mm, 6mm and 8mm thicknesses.
