Snow and Ice Removal Program

After a very successful program last year, the snow and ice removal program is beginning again.

Residents are required to remove snow and ice from their adjacent sidewalks for the entire width of the sidewalk. The Green Team will survey the Village 12 or more hours after a measurable snow event at the request of the Director of Public Works. A notice will be left on the door of delinquent properties noting they have 12 additional hours to complete snow and ice removal. The list of delinquent addresses will be given to the Police Department. If the snow and ice is not removed in a timely manner, the Green Team will return to remove the snow. The property owner will be charged a $15 fee plus snow removal charges at a rate of $50/hour. Total charges will be added to the property owners tax bill.

It is important to note that this action is in place to assure safe walking conditions for everyone. Residents are encouraged to call the Police Department at 847.2610 to report areas that are not adequately cleared or email snow@villageofshorewood.org

Magazine Overhaul

The Library has completely changed the way we display and store magazines.  During this hectic time of year it is often easier to read in small chunks.  Magazines are perfect for short bits of reading or browsing.  Stop in and see the new arrangement and you will certainly find something interesting.

Holiday Recycling Tips

Yes, Virginia, you can reduce waste and save money this holiday season (headline from DNR press release this week)
During this year's holiday season, people can help the environment and their pocketbooks by taking a few simple recycling and waste reduction steps.  Consider these tips for your holiday decorations and parties:

  • Have lights that no longer work? These are accepted for recycling at the Shorewood DPW along with other electronic equipment on the Saturdays the yard is open. (1st Saturday Only Dec.- March; 1st and 3rd Saturdays April- Nov.)
  • Replace old string lights with energy-efficient LED lights.
  • Use timers to automatically turn off holiday lights to conserve energy.
  • Usewashable plates, cups, silverware, tablecloths and napkins versus disposables to cut down on waste.

Quote of the Week

We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.

Health Tip

Over the holiday season workplaces are filled with delicious and unhealthy goodies. So, make sure to keep your desk stocked with healthy snacks as an alternative to those tempting sweets.

Environmental Tips

Bring a mug to work. Using a mug saves 500 disposable cups per person from being thrown away each year.
