Snow and Ice Removal Program
After a very successful program last year, the snow and ice removal program is beginning again.Residents are required to remove snow and ice from their adjacent sidewalks for the entire width of the sidewalk. The Green Team will survey the Village 12 or more hours after a measurable snow event at the request of the Director of Public Works. A notice will be left on the door of delinquent properties noting they have 12 additional hours to complete snow and ice removal. The list of delinquent addresses will be given to the Police Department. If the snow and ice is not removed in a timely manner, the Green Team will return to remove the snow. The property owner will be charged a $15 fee plus snow removal charges at a rate of $50/hour. Total charges will be added to the property owners tax bill.It is important to note that this action is in place to assure safe walking conditions for everyone. Residents are encouraged to call the Police Department at 847.2610 to report areas that are not adequately cleared.

Check out Shorewood's New Signs! At Monday's Board Meeting, the Board approved new monument signs for Village buildings, parks and other important landmarks. The sign design ,selected by an Ad-Hoc sign committee in cooperation with the Design Review Board, was inspired by our entrance monuments on Capitol Drive and fit soundly within our Village branding. This specific design was chosen because: - The logo, green tree and blue swoosh, reflects our Village Brand.
- The copper coloring invokes our entrance monuments which are in-turn inspired by the cooper dome which sits on the High School administration building built in 1925.
- The design clearly identifies the purpose of the building by focusing prominently on the name of the building.
There will be five signs installed in this initial stage : at the Police Department, Village Hall and Village Center and two way-finding sites will be installed behind Village Hall and at the parking lot entrance off of Frederick Dr. To view the signs please, click here. Back to Top |

Check the Trees Before You Tie Up Your Horse!
At the recent "Treasures from the Archives" program sponsored by the Shorewood Historical Society, one of the items on display was an ordinance book from 1909 that included the following:
"Fastening horses to shade trees shall be fined not less than $1 or more than $5."
The ordinance book was just one of many items on display that fascinated visitors and helped them to visualize changes in the Village over time.
Because of the success of the Treasures program and the fact that the Historical Society does not have a museum, Society board members are looking for high traffic locations in the Village where historical artifacts could be displayed on a rotating basis. Suggestions from residents are welcome. Email shorewoodhistory@yahoo.com.

Song of the Month
The holiday season is a fun, joyful time of the year where friends and family get together and have a good time. Many holiday songs struggle to capture this spirit. However, Bob Dylan's "It must be Santa" nails the atmosphere of rollicking Christmas Party with a polka-inspired update of a 1960's Mitch Miller. Not only is Dylan one of the great artists of our time, he is also a personal favorite of both Chris and Pete in the Manager's Office. The song and accompanying video feel like a great party where the guest had maybe one too many glasses of Christmas cheer. To hear the song and see the video, click here.

Quote of the Week
There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires. Nelson Mandela

Health Tip
Everyone's overly busy during the holidays, which leaves less time to cook healthy meals. Instead f heading to the drive thru cook meals intended specifically for the freezer. You'll be thankful later when you can pop one of the meals into the oven or microwave and turn your attention to another task.
|
Environmental Tips
Make a decision to shop locally in areas you can walk or bike to, rather than the ones you have to drive to. Not only does this save fuels but it also boosts your local economy. Check out the many places to shop in Shorewood.
