July 2013
From Prof. Steven M. Cohen

Dear Friends,

I am thrilled to announce that my friend and mentor, the inimitable Leonard "Leibel" Fein, has graciously given BJPA the gift of his (nearly) complete writings thus far, including over 1,500 documents: articles, speeches, letters, and author's drafts of writings which later were (or weren't) published.

You can browse the Leibel Fein collection at:
In order to introduce this invaluable oeuvre to our users, we dedicate our July Reader's Guide to the Leibel Fein Collection. In the Guide you will find 95 brilliant writings on a wide range of topics (from politics and race in America to Jewish identity and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict) and dating from 1966 through June 2013. Introductions to the Guide are provided by Rabbi David Saperstein of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and by Leibel himself.

We look forward to the further growth of this collection as Leibel goes from strength to strength and continues, for many years to come, to help the Jewish community understand how best to live up to our highest ideals.

Best wishes,Steven M. Cohen

Introducing The Jewish Survey Question Bank

The Jewish Survey Question Bank is a new project that will revolutionize Jewish academic, social and organizational research, by providing a convenient and powerful resource for anyone designing a survey on Jewish communal topics. For more information, see this video.

The Jewish Survey Question Bank is presented in partnership with the Berman Jewish DataBank @ The Jewish Federations of North America, and made possible by the generous support of the Jim Joseph Foundation.
BJPA Passes 17,000 Publications 17K

This month, BJPA's holdings grew to exceed seventeen thousand documents on over 450 topics.
New DataBank website co-functional with BJPA

Pursuant to the endowment created by patron founder, Bill Berman, the former North American Jewish Data Bank has now made a transition to being administered by The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), headquartered in New York City, as of July 1, 2013.

Dr. Laurence Kotler-Berkowitz, Senior Director of Research and Analysis at JFNA, has assumed the position of Director of what will now be known as the Berman Jewish DataBank. Dr. Arnold Dashefsky is Director Emeritus and Senior Academic Consultant, and Dr. Ron Miller remains Associate Director. The URL remains the same: www.jewishdatabank.org.

The new structure allows simultaneous searching of the contents of both the Berman Jewish DataBank and the Berman Jewish Policy Archive. Searching either can now return results from both.

We at BJPA are pleased to partner with the DataBank and its new parent organization, JFNA, in order to maximize convenience and utility for the users of both sites.
