Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

It's easier to be lazy when you're organized.

Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Organizing Services. I hope they
make your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now.
That is, read this now & then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter!
DO

Clear boxes

Do Contain (for Free)

Your home probably contains enough unused containers to make your own container store. So designate one space (like a basement shelf or under a bed), gather them up, donate/recycle the ones you don't love, & shop there next time you need a bin! Eg, shoe box as drawer organizer or gift basket as shoe wrangler.

DON'T

Don't Research
Being organized is avoiding too much stuff in too small a container. Too much (vs just enough) research - into a vacation, a restaurant, a car: any choice - means too much info in your brain. It backfires & you end up avoiding the decision or making a bad one. Fun articles & podcasts - I hope not too many!
GET

Time Timer
Get Timer Tools
Many of you know my Gospel of the Kitchen Timer: few things work as simply, cheaply, or painlessly to keep us on-task. ("I'll work on the newsletter for the next 30 mins.") But now I'm loving a timer on my computer & phone - which, let's face it, are where we get distracted. Mine is Time Timer, & here are more.
GIVE
Give Cards, Guiltlessly
Sometimes it's hard to recycle greeting cards that friends & family have put the time into sending, but once you've enjoyed the message - they were thinking of you and wish you well - most can go. Sending them to St. Jude's Recycled Card Program, which helps abused & at-risk clients, lessens lingering guilt!

Get Organized in March & April
I'm scheduling organizing sessions in the Detroit & Chicagoareas for March & April. Call or email to find your best time; for Chicago, check this link for availability. We'll identify your trouble spots, break them down into manageable steps, work through them, & keep in touch to make sure you can maintain the great progress you've made.

Recent & Upcoming Appearances
Michigan has a great event called Entre-Slam where entrepreneurs tell fun stories from their lives. I took a chance in January & my story won 3rd place! (Out of 5 story-tellers, it's true, but I was just glad I didn't faint.) Contact them to organize an event in your area.

I'll also soon be a guest blogger on the Savvy Money Gal's excellent blog!
