May 15, 2015
Greetings!
I wanted to update you on our budget gap and to pass on more really good news. Thanks to the generous pledge increases of many of us, including some very substantial increases, we are now expecting that, instead of a deficit of about $200,000 this year, we will be approximately in balance. What a wonderful thing! Thank you!

There is much more stewardship work ahead, so that we can sustain, expand, and enhance our ministries in many areas, and we will be hearing more about this in the Fall. Still, it is a wonderful thing to know that, for the first time in many years, we can enter that discussion in a fiscally responsible position!

Children, Youth & Family Ministries Listening Sessions Begin This Sunday

Everyone is invited to a listening session today focusing on children, youth & family ministry at ASBTS.

As we continue to grow in Christ's ministry together, All Saints has a wonderful opportunity to develop our vision for children, youth & family ministry. This month, Rev. Aime invites all parishioners, parents, grandparents, teachers - everyone interested in this vital formational ministry is invited to share their thoughts and hopes as we come together in community to listen and begin to discern God's call for the future of this growing ministry at All Saints. In our recent parish profile, we articulated our heartfelt desire to grow ministry to children, youth and families; now we can begin to act on that vision.

If you believe that ministry to children, youth and their families is an important missional goal for our parish ministry, please attend one of the following listening sessions. Sign-up sheets are available on the Information Table after church on Sunday, or email [email protected]. If you are not able to attend any of the planned sessions, but desire to be a part of the conversation, please indicate this in the area provided on the sign-up sheets and we will provide more listening sessions.

Sunday, May 17, 11:30, with lunch and childcare, Parish Hall (limited to 30 people. There is still room!)
Thursday, May 21, 10-11:30 a.m. Parish House

ASBTS Parishioners Brighten Mother's Day For

Transition House Families

Team Transition House Mother's Day (R-L) Amy Miller, Patrice Mueller, Elena Cruz, David Boyd create Mother's Day gift bags for mother's living at Transition House
Caring and generous parishioners donated money and gifts to make the All Saints dinner on Mother's Day a festive occasion at the Transition House emergency shelter for homeless families. A gift bag for each of the eighteen mothers contained a $25 gift card to Marshalls, hand-crafted and vintage necklaces, candy, Avon products, and toiletries. The presentation of gift bags after dinner was made by Jim Buckley, President of the Transition House Board of Directors, who asked children in each family individually to come forward where they were given long-stem flowers and a gift bag to give to their mother. A decorated cake was served with dessert to complete the event. For some time after dinner was over, mothers and their children continued exploring the contents of the bags and showing off the necklaces they received. Thank you for making possible these few happy moments in an otherwise grim day of living in a homeless shelter.

Save the Date: Annual End-of-Year Picnic, May 31
Summer begins at All Saints with an end-of-the-year picnic on Pentecost. This year because the Feast of Pentecost (5/24) falls on Memorial Day weekend, All Saints will hold our annual end-of-the-year BBQ on Sunday, May 31 after the 10:00 a.m. service. Please plan to join in on this spirit-filled celebration. Let's remember that our baptism equals ministry; LOTS of volunteers are needed - in planning activities, cooking and serving the meal - as we celebrate God's gift of the Holy Spirit. Feel free to dress casually for church on this special Sunday! If you want to help in anyway, please contact the church office at 969-4771 or email [email protected].
3rd Annual Summer Film Festival at All Saints

Once again this year, All Saints will sponsor a 6 week film festival.

Beginning Wednesday June 17, everyone is invited to gather in the Parish Hall where we will present a variety of movies selected by the congregation following our Eventide services and dinners.

We currently are in the movie selection process and need your input.  Do you have a favorite film that you'd recommend for this year's festival? We're looking for movies that are fun, romantic, humorous, dramatic, etc. that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Send your suggestions to Steve O'Connor - [email protected] no later than May 30th and our panel of "experts" will make the final schedule.  Also keep an eye on your Read All About It, we'll post the itinerary in early June.

Water Receipt 1904:
one dollar in full payment for water to May 1, 1905

A "water problem", 1907

"In this connection, however, it may be well to say that should other large gifts come to the church it might be wise to contemplate the propriety of using such funds for digging a well and erecting its appropriate structure on the church property. In that event it could still be considered a memorial, and a very suggestive one, when we remember the scriptural use of the word "water," as well as a valuable one. ... We make this suggestion, for the reason that, sooner or later, we shall have to face a "water problem." Our present source of supply is from a neighbor's well, of which, under certain exigences, we may at any time be deprived."

Outreach Tournament a Great Success!

The final numbers are still coming in, but this year's Outreach Golf Tournament raised at least $50,000 for All Saints' outreach ministries! This huge success is due thanks to the generous volunteers, donors and participants. The Silent Auction was quite successful (6 items) and 32 other raffle prizes were given away, as well as 5 men and women awards for longest drive on two different holes and for closest to the pin on three different holes! It was a fun yet slightly blustery day. Congratulations to the tournament winners and congratulations to the Outreach Committee for another successful year!

Outreach With The Cleveland "Clippers"

You may think Santa Barbara Cleveland School's mascot is the Dolphins, but for a couple of days in early May they became the Cleveland Clippers. That's because each sixth grade class spent a day on Santa Cruz Island clipping the heads off of thousands of invasive plants.

For most students, it was their first trip to the islands and their first boat trip. Dolphin, whale, and island fox sightings awed the students, as did the view at our Cavern Point picnic site. Eventually we found our way to the project site beyond the upper campground. There we spread out to locate oyster plants (Tragopogon porrifolius) in various stages of bud, flower, and seed. Sanctuary Tour This Sunday!

"Why do I need to take a tour of the Sanctuary? I sit in Church every Sunday!" If this thought has crossed your mind, well, please think again. Rest assured that this is not a fundraising activity, just a chance to get an update on the Sanctuary readiness plans. You can sign up in advance by emailing [email protected] - or you may just stay after service to join any tour. You do not need to sign up in advance! The next tour dates are:

Sunday, May 17 - after both the 8 and 10 a.m. service
