Greetings!

Mother's Day at Transition House - Donations Needed

Please help make this Mother's Day special for the moms who are living at the Transition House emergency shelter.  We would like to give each mom a nice gift bag filled with items such as jewelry, cosmetics, shower gels and a gift card.  We will be accepting donations of money after the 8:00 and 10:00 services this week and next. Look for us at the Information Table. You can also drop off your donations at the Church Office during the week. Living with your family in a homeless shelter on Mother's Day is a grim experience for mothers. The small gifts All Saints will give these mothers at dinner on Sunday, May 10 (also All Saints' night to serve) will provide a brief respite from this reality. Thanks so much for supporting this gift of love.
New Adult Formation Offering:
Spiritual Writing Practices
Explore the life of the spirit through journaling, memoir, poetry, and other forms. The class, based on the text What's in a Phrase?: Pausing Where Scripture Gives You Pause by Marilyn Chandler McEntire, will include writing exercises and practice. Class will meet in the Parish House Wednesday evenings after Eventide and supper, 7:15 - 8:45 p.m., May 6, 13, and 20.

The Rev. Vicki Mouradian and parishioner Kathie Deviny will co-facilitate this enlightening course. Kathie joined All Saints in 2012 after relocating from Seattle with her husband, The Rev. Paul Collins. After a career in social work she studied creative writing and her personal essays have appeared in religious and health publications. Bob Pierson will share his reflections on the hymn text "There's a Wideness in God's Mercy," and will show through the parables of Jesus and several events in Jesus' life that he shared a
much different image of God with his followers.

Calvary Monastery and Retreat House in Santa Barbara, CA.

Opportunity for Cooking Demonstration
Lenore Hughes, wife of Gethin Hughes, retired Bishop of San Diego and former Priest at ASBTS and author of Cups of Fortune, is writing a cookbook featuring her favorite Armenian recipes. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have tasted a few of her recipes are eagerly awaiting its publication.

Lenore has been giving cooking demonstrations to small classes at her home in Los Olivos and has offered to plan a special cooking demonstration for a group from ASBTS. If you are interested, please contact Judy Mack at jcsmsb@gmail.com. Please include some dates you would be free to drive to Los Olivos in the morning, returning after the lunch we will have watched Lenore prepare.

Sanctuary Tour Program Update;
Lots of Interest as Tours Continue

"Why do I need to take a tour of the Sanctuary? I sit in Church every Sunday!" If this thought has crossed your mind, well, please think again. More than 120 parishioners have taken a Sanctuary tour to receive an update on the plans to preserve our beautiful and historic Sanctuary and to ready it for its next 100 years of worship. The tour provides an update since the Town Hall meeting held last May: a lot has happened since then and you'll get all the details.

Rest assured that this is not a fundraising activity, just a chance to get an update on the Sanctuary readiness plans. You can sign up in advance by clicking this link - or you may just stay after service to join any tour. You do not need to sign up in advance! The next tour dates are:

Sunday, April 26 - after both the 8 and 10 a.m. services
Wednesday, May 13 - 4:45 p.m.
Sunday, May 17 - after both the 8 and 10 a.m. service
A Continued Sign of Our Baptism

The filled font in the westward baptistry stands as a continual sign of our baptism. We enter church through the waters of baptism, and we enter back into the world through the waters of baptism. Wherever we go, we are the Body of Christ, called to carry out the promises we make at our baptism.

Feel free to touch the water and mark your head as you enter the church, and enter back into the world.

All Saints Book Club Meets May 11

Come for Fellowship, Potluck, Oh and the Book!

All Saints Book Club will meet on Monday, May 11 at 6pm in the Parish House for a potluck dinner to discuss the May selection Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters at the End by Atul Gawande. In Being Mortal, bestselling author Atul Gawande tackles the hardest challenge of his profession: how medicine can not only improve life but also the process of its ending. Full of eye-opening research and riveting storytelling, Being Mortal asserts that medicine can comfort and enhance our experience even to the end, providing not only a good life but also a good end. Everyone is invited. Contact Rev. Vicki at vicki@asbts.org with any questions.
