This Sunday's Readings:
Liturgy of Palms:

Liturgy of Word:
March 27, 2015
Greetings!

Have you been gathered in beloved community?
Have you known the dark night of the soul?
Have you ever been lost?
Have you ever been found?
Have you been set ablaze by the Light of Christ?

If you have answered yes, then you have discovered the Paschal Mystery. Christ's death and resurrection, what we call the Paschal Mystery, is the heart of Christianity, and it is the life-saving center of our own lives and stories. It is indeed a mystery how the love of Christ, made known to us on the cross, and the transforming power of God, revealed in the resurrection, saves us, but we know that they do. Christ's Paschal Mystery finds us in the darkness of our human life, gathers us in beloved community, and makes us, once again,
a new creation

This Holy Week, come and experience the life-saving mysteries of Christ's death and resurrection anew. The services of Holy Week are the most meaningful and life-changing services of the year for many. During Holy Week, we not only remember Christ's saving acts for us, but we enter into the Paschal Mystery. We participate in the very acts of Christ's passion, so that on Easter we become God's Resurrection people, agents of God's transforming love to this broken world.

Help Make Palm Crosses

Tomorrow in Parish Hall

Volunteers are needed tomorrow, Saturday, March 28 from 9:30 a.m. until Noon to make palm crosses for Palm Sunday. Many hands make light work, so please help if you can!
We will meet in the Parish Hall.
Have You Made Your Easter Dedication?
Easter dedications help make it possible to enhance our worship together through floral displays and special music. Envelopes will be available in the pews this Sunday. Please indicate your desired dedication (in thanksgiving, in memory, in honor, or in celebration of someone or a special occasion) on the front of the envelope and place your donation inside. You can then place the envelope in the collection plate or bring it to Kathleen in the Church Office.
Palm Sunday, A Journey with Jesus
This Sunday!
This Sunday is the first day of Holy Week and the last Sunday in Lent, known as Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion.  This morning, we journey with Jesus, celebrating his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and enter into the life-saving mystery of his death on the cross with the Passion reading. Parents: please have your children meet their Sunday School teacher on the patio after the Liturgy of the Palms; classes will walk to the Parish House together.

Maundy Thursday
Potluck Supper & Overnight Vigil

Potluck: Come share a Mediterranean potluck and fellowship with friends as we remember the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples. Please sign up at the Information Table after church and bring your offering plated and ready to serve on Thursday. We will gather in the Parish Hall at 5:30 p.m. Contact Rev. Vicki at [email protected] or at 969-4771 with any questions.

Please sign up at the Information Table with a description of your meal offering or email the office: [email protected].

Vigil: On Maundy Thursday, the chapel will be transformed into the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus said, "I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me." Spend an hour in watch and prayerful meditation with Jesus Christ as we remember his last night before the cross, spent praying in the Garden of Gethsemane.  This overnight vigil will begin immediately following the Maundy Thursday service and conclude at the Noon Good Friday service. Coffee and tea will be provided, as well as meditative music and other spiritual resources. Sign up on the patio for the hour of your choice; the greatest need is from midnight until 4 a.m. "Could you not stay awake with me one hour?" This is truly a humbling and powerful Christian experience.

Sign up on at the Information Table for your choice of hour.
Good Friday, April 3
Services at Noon and 7pm
On Good Friday we commemorate and participate in Christ's suffering and death because we believe they have purpose-the salvation of the world. We believe that Christ's death has conquered death, in all of its forms, once and for all: that is why we call the Friday on which he died "good." When we have found ourselves on one of life's many crosses, Christ, who suffers with us, has sustained us. We meet Christ on the cross, and we know that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. In baptism, we die with Christ on the cross, promising to surrender ourselves to God for the sake of our salvation, and to enter into the suffering of others for the sake of their salvation. Come walk the way of the cross for salvation's sake.

The Great Easter Vigil
Saturday, April 4 at Sunset

Fire. Light. Word. Water. Bread. Wine. These are the symbols that lead us from death to life with Christ in this ancient service, the most important service of the year. The service begins with the kindling of a new fire - the light of Christ breaking into the darkness of our world. And then we hear the story, our story, of salvation. We gather on the patio around the fire as we share our ancestral stories of how God has worked for our salvation since the beginning of time, and how we still participate in God's ongoing story of salvation. We will renew our baptismal covenant as we commit ourselves anew to be people of Christ's resurrection. And we will celebrate that resurrection in the first Eucharist of Easter. Dress warmly, and don't miss this principle liturgy of the year gathered around the simplicity of a campfire.

Easter Sunday, April 5
Service & Brunch

Alleluia! Christ has Risen! Come celebrate the victory of Christ's resurrection. We will celebrate at our regular Sunday worship times: 8 a.m. Easter service of Holy Eucharist with Baptisms, and 10 a.m. full Choral Eucharist with Renewal of Baptismal Vows. Remember your flowers for the wooden cross on the lawn!

Easter Brunch after 10am service - Gather together in fellowship and celebration at an Easter brunch in the Parish Hall after the
10 a.m. service. Connie Lindberg will prepare a delicious entree. Sign up on the patio with your side dish or beverage offering and RSVP. Please bring your dish plated and ready to serve.

Egg Hunt - Following the 10 a.m. Easter service, All Saints Sunday

School will host an Easter egg hunt for children. There will be two hunts - one for the itty bitties and one for older elementary aged children. Please plan to stay for this fun-filled tradition.

Don't forget your Easter flowers for the cross!

Don't forget to bring flowers with you on Easter Sunday to put in our cross! Each Easter, parishioners and friends have the opportunity to bring a flower offering to place in the wooden cross displayed on the lawn in front of the church. Please contact the church office if you have questions: (805) 969-4771.

Parish School 50th Anniversary Celebration
Sunday, April 12

The preschool started on February 1, 1965 under Dr. Letty Lauffer (then Dr. Letty Failing) with just 29 students, one rabbit and two guinnea pigs. Since that first class it has grown into a thriving early childhood resource for the area families with more than 3,250 graduates to date.

A special 10am worship service inviting for all ages is planned for that day! The children will sing and the gospel will be presented for children. Please plan to worship on Sunday to help celebrate such a magnificent milestone! No Sunday School this Sunday.

All are invited to a celebratory picnic, after church on Sunday, April 12, from 11:30am - 3:00 pm in the play yard. The bash will feature a DJ with a 1960s line-up, hot dogs, lemonade, popcorn, games, face painting, and dancing. It will be a wonderful time for past administrators, teachers, parents and students to gather together to celebrate our 50 years as a parish preschool.

Dear Friends, Greetings from Rwanda!

Dear friends at ASBTS,

Greetings from Rwanda. Here is a photo of a tent donated by the Outreach Committee to Network for Africa's Aspire project for women & children back in 2009. Yesterday I travelled for hours into an obscure and deprived part of Rwanda, and sure enough the tent (and chairs) are still in daily use. The tent is used as a classroom for a total of 450 women and 400 toddlers when they attend our daily training sessions. The photo (apologies it isn't very good) shows a class of very young children learning their numbers and letters. In a nearby village we have yet to reach, only 4 in 80 people are literate, so we have our work cut out for us. Please take some pleasure in knowing your generosity still has a daily impact in a far away corner of the world

Best wishes,

Becky Tinsley
