More Fall Fair info below!
The Fall Fair is coming soon! The Fair will be the great experience it always is, and this year will be even more exciting with our Discovery Playground open for all to enjoy. Most important, proceeds from the Fall Fair benefit student financial aid! Therefore, I hope you will volunteer your time, donate items to our sales, and
purchase your activity tickets with that in mind.

The Fall Fair grows out of a commitment to our mission. (It's right there on
Burgundy's homepage for all to see!) A diverse community is central to who we are as a school at Burgundy. Our Fall Fair is a fun, family-friendly way to support a socioeconomically diverse learning community.

Coming Up at Burgundy ...
All Parent Meeting
You are invited to the All Parent Meeting on Tuesday, October 13, at 7 p.m. in the Loft. This is an opportunity for direct, face-to-face dialogue between Burgundy parents and administrators, including Jeff and Elizabeth, and members of the Board of Trustees. Bring your questions! If you have specific topics you'd like to discuss, let us know when you register to attend. We'll devise an agenda based on the suggestions we receive.

Complimentary childcare will be provided for children 4 and older in the Extended Day building. Pizza will be served and a G-rated movie (The Aristocats) will be shown. Because of space and staffing, we may only provide childcare to the first 50 children registered. Childcare reservations must be made by 5 p.m. Friday, October 9.

Music Box Student Performance
The first student recital of the year is coming up soon: Thursday, October 15, 7 p.m. in the Loft. All styles of music and recitations of poems or monologues are welcome. Students need to preview their performance for Emily (McCrory) East or Cathy Manley before the recital. Email Emily  by Tuesday, October 13 to make arrangements; include your name, song or reading selection, and instrument if applicable. Students, families and friends are welcome to attend the performance!

Admission Season Starting
Want to give information about our Open Houses to others? Share posts from our Facebook page or pass along a flyer (PDF)!
Just a month into the school year, the new admission season is now beginning! In addition to our four
Open House events (including the first Open House next Friday), Lori will be attending several school fairs. The first of these is the Black Student Fund Fair this Sunday with several Burgundy volunteer helpers, followed by the Alexandria Preschool and Kindergarten Fairs and the Mothers on the Hill Fair in coming weeks. She will also visit several area preschools and host preschool visits to Burgundy for Barnyard Field Trips in October. We are also inviting families to our open houses via a mailed postcard in neighborhoods where we have seen increased interest in recent years, including areas of Arlington and Falls Church.

Applications for the 2016-17 school year are now being accepted, and we hope you will encourage your friends and neighbors to consider Burgundy for their children and to attend an Open House and our Fall Fair!

FairFall Fair: Updates and Reminders
Want to invite others to the Fall Fair? Please feel free to share posts from our Facebook page or pass along a flyer (PDF)
We're happy to announce two new activities for this year's Fair! During the afternoon, you can participate in a cake walk with delicacies from some of Burgundy's bakers, and you're welcome to get a temporary artistic accessory with henna hand prints. The cake walk will take cash; henna hand prints will require 8 tickets.

Proceeds from the Fair go to financial aid at Burgundy. Your friends, family, and neighbors are more than welcome!

Volunteers Needed
All of the Fair's activities require your support to be as successful as they can be! Earlier this week you should have received an email from your Fall Fair Class Coordinator with links to Sign Up Genius to staff Fall Fair activities. Every parent is expected to give one hour to the Fair, and fortunately many do more. Please sign up by Thursday, October 8 so that we can be sure we have enough help to run each activity. If we don't, we may have to shorten or cancel an activity. Help us all to put on an event that does so much for our children and our community. Thanks! Contact Fall Fair Volunteer Coordinator Laura Davis if you haven't heard from your class coordinator.

Thanks in advance for thinking of sweet treats you can make for the Bake Sale. Remember, we're also looking for donations to the Used Book and Kids' Closet Sales. Get all the details about donations.

Leaf Music Performances
Our community is talented and we encourage students and alumni to share their musical talent at the Fall Fair. Our thanks to music teachers Cathy Manley and Emily (McCrory) East in advance for their work to help showcase our performing students.

We have limited availability for performance times. Here's what is important for students wishing to perform:
- Performances will be in two 45-minute blocks: the first from noon to 12:45 p.m., the second 1:30-2:15 p.m.
- There are 30 slots for performances; 15 in each block. Each slot will be 1-2 minutes in length and should only have one song. Song selection (and possibly shortening) will be supervised by Cathy and Emily.
- Students may sing together or accompany a singer on a piano or guitar. Requests to perform should be made via email to Emily between Monday, October 5 at 9 a.m. and Friday, October 9 at 3 p.m. If there are more requests than slots within the time frame of requests, Cathy and Emily will make selections via a lottery.

Thanks for your cooperation!
- Cathy, Emily, and Elizabeth

Staffing Updates
As many of you have heard, Zoë Bailey is expecting her first child. She is due in early December and plans to work up to that point and return after Spring Break. Martha Kapur, who was the 4th grade Redtails teacher for several years, will return to Burgundy to serve as Zoë's maternity sub. She knows the curriculum inside and out and has worked with the team for many years. Martha plans to overlap with Zoë for a week or two prior to Zoë taking leave.

Support Burgundy While You Shop!
Burgundy has many partnerships with organizations that help bring in more revenue for the school, and by doing a few very small (easy!) things, you can make a huge difference. Please take a few minutes (literally - just minutes!) to help our school by linking your accounts and cards. This year's affinity program coordinator, Jenny Friedl, parent of Porter (2nd grade Viceroy), Lindy (Kindergarten Penguin) and Tyler (Kindergarten Polar Bear) has shared the following information. She welcomes questions, comments, or suggestions at jnfriedl@gmail.com.

Amazon Smile
Did you know your Amazon.com purchases can benefit Burgundy? Just go to  smile.amazon.com and select Burgundy Farm Country Day School as your charity. Then make sure that smile.amazon.com is your Amazon "homepage." Other account settings remain the same. It's a one-time sign up and Burgundy gets 0.5% of each eligible purchase.

Target RedCard
If you have a Target RedCard, you can link it to Burgundy and Burgundy will receive a percentage based on each purchase. There are currently only 22 cards linked to Burgundy and we are hoping to increase that number! This is also an easy, one-time link and then you won't have to think about it again. This can be done in-store or online. Burgundy's school ID is 16709.

Giant Card
You can easily link your Giant card to benefit Burgundy! This one needs to be re-linked this year due to website changes, so now is your chance to make sure your card is benefiting our fantastic school. This can be done in-store or online and Burgundy's school ID is 02242.

Burgundy Bulletin
On Saturday, September 26th, four Burgundy cross country girls participated in the DCXC Invitational Cross Country meet in its inaugural middle school 3K race. Elizabeth Chapman (7th), Mia Colaizzi (6th), Sophia Gilroy (7th), and Ayo Summey (7th) all had great races in a very fast field of 68 runners. This meet is part of the DCXC Project, a charitable endeavor of Pacers Running Stores to support the development of distance running in the greater Washington D.C. region. More than 3,000 runners ran on Saturday in races for a variety of age groups from elementary to college students.

Thank You! Buy a Book
Thank you to all the families who donated money to Burgundy's library through the Buy a Book program. It was a big success; we received donation dollars for over 100 books. Thanks for your participation!
