OPTOMETRISTS IN ALBERTA ACHIEVE EXPANDED SCOPE OF PRACTICE

legislation Recent changes in scope of practice legislation mean that optometrists in Alberta will soon be able to provide even more services to our patients.

Of particular significance is the ability to treat glaucoma independently. Glaucoma is a disease that can affect all ages, and results in a gradual loss of peripheral vision. The process happens painlessly and imperceptibly in most forms of glaucoma, so optometrists are usually the first to detect it during routine eye exams. We are proud to announce that optometrists in Alberta will now be able to treat most forms of glaucoma independently.

Other changes in our scope of practice legislation include being able to order lab tests directly, and prescribe oral medications.

Slowly but surely the weather is getting warmer. It's time to blow the dust off the clubs, and warm up your back muscles with a few easy swings on the driving range. There's the changing lighting conditions, the wind drying out your eyes, following a small fast-moving object among competing background patterns, gauging depth and ground contour differences, and the challenging weather elements. What a complex scene to manage!

alcon

Our apologies to those who are experiencing delays with their contact lens deliveries. If you wear CIBA products, such as Focus dailies, Air Optix, or Total One, you may need to wait a while for your order to come in. The manufacturer, Alcon Canada Inc, switched over to a new computer system which caused some serious backorders - orders from the end of April may still be shipping.

We are working with Alcon to resolve this issue as soon as possible.   In the meantime, if you are running out soon, we suggest getting your order in early!

LOOK FOR TITANIUM IN QUALITY EYE WEAR

Titanium

Just what is Titanium, anyway? Titanium is actually the ninth-most abundant element on Earth. It's found in rock, soil and all living things including the human body. Its extremely high strength to weight ratio made it a material of interest in the military and aerospace industry. Today the uses of Titanium extend to computers, sports gear, medical applications, and now eyeglass frames
