 Dear Friends of BBLA,
I hope you all are having fun and are diligently working on your tan lines. I do not want to spoil your relaxation time, but just wanted to use the opportunity of our newsletter and report from the construction zone on the third floor of the Bohemian National Hall. We are almost done with the reconstruction of our storage area and are getting ready for the floor buffing and painting the walls. We have relocated our audio speakers in order to minimize interference with microphones and have replaced most of the lights with new energy-saving LEDs. We have also installed Alfons Mucha plaque on the library east wall. Our ever-diligent and hard-working Library Committee completely reorganized our bookshelves, so once we open for business, everything will be spick and span. Thank you for your support and hopefully we will see you in September. Joseph Balaz, President Bohemian Benevolent & Literary Association

CZECH STUDENTS DESIGN AIR HOUSE, TO SHOW IN IRVINE, CALIFORNIA
by Katerina Kyselica
A computer-generated rendering of the AIR house. Image by cyrany architectural rendering.
Congratulations to students of the Czech Technical University in Prague whose design of a sustainable experimental AIR HOUSE was selected for the prestigious international competition SOLAR DECATHLON 2013. The challenging design has been executed, the house built and exhibited in Prague. AIR HOUSE will be on display in October 3-13, 2013 at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California and will compete with 19 other houses designed by university students from other countries.
A simple but efficient compact home with open, minimum living area and terrace extending the interiors outdoor is designed for 1-2 elderly as a retirement living alternative. Inspired by the Czech cabin style living ("chata"), the AIR HOUSE is designed as a zero-energy house, i.e. it obtains all the energy needed for the household, and for the maintenance of the optimal interior climate, from solar radiation.
