 Dear Friends of BBLA,
At the beginning of June, I will be meeting with representatives of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs for our biannual briefing session about the Bohemian National Hall. We will be discussing the general upkeep of the building, including maintenance issues and improvements, as well as daily activities and our plans for the next six months.
I am happy to report that our fundraising effort for the devastated community of West, TX is being successful so far. At the last BBLA meeting of the Trustees, we also decided to sponsor four children from the West community who will participate in the recovery trip to Kunovice, Czech Republic. These kids will take part in the International Children's Folklore Festival, an annually held event centered around Czech culture and tradition and will hopefully divert their attention and give them a positive outlook on life regardless of their current difficult situation.
I would also like to share with you that our sister organization in Cedar Rapids, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, has received the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, so a huge congratulations out to them..
Thank you all,
Joseph Balaz, President
Bohemian Benevolent & Literary Association
