Ed's Tip: How to Deal with Steel
Tips for Selecting and Transporting Edging Many of our customers have been asking about our metal edging so Ed came up with a few pointers to help you decide which size and type to use to help give your next job that professional, manicured look.
- We carry aluminum and steel edging
- Both available in 1/8" and 3/16" thickness x 4"wide x 16' long (5 stakes included with aluminum, 6 with the steel)
- The steel also comes in 10' lengths (4 stakes included)
- 1/8" is generally used for curved beds, 3/16 is used for straight beds and walkways
- Heavy duty steel (1/4" x 5" x 16') is also available (recommended for driveways)
- Aluminum edging comes in a mill (shiny) or black finish
- Edging does not bend easily and should not hang over the end of the truck bed so it's important to bring the proper vehicle for transporting it to your site ie. truck or trailer that will sufficiently hold the length of edging you choose
- Measure the linear feet properly as there are no returns on edging
- We also carry universal corners, ends, extra stakes and paver restraints
So when you want a maintenance free, professional edge consider the clean lines of metal!

Dora Amateis Rhododendron Great for the front of the border
| Rhododendron 'Dora Amateis' |
If there's room for one more shrub in the border, and there always is, here is our suggestion: Dora Amateis Rhododendron. As you can see it's a small leaf Rhododendron with pale creamy buds opening to bright white clusters early to mid-season, but it's the size that's the winner: 3' high and will grow twice as wide with a rounded, compact habit. It's not easy to move large trees but experienced loaders with the proper equipment can get it done safely. This Green Mountain Sugar Maple measures approx. 26' - the top of the story pole Darryl is holding measures 16'
|
Last week Adrian and his crew hand dug and burlapped two large 9-10" Green Mountain Sugar Maples ( Acer saccharum) from our tree farm in Woodbury which were transported to the sales yard in Newtown. We're finding that many job sites require larger material to fulfill architect specs and this one fits the bill measuring all of 26'+ and almost as wide. Material this size will instantly give any site an established look. Give either office a call to inquire about these or other larger material.

| Activity in Newtown lately includes pond dredging - interesting to watch and the outcome of a deeper irrigation pond means more water available during dry spells. |
