Winter Tips

Just a few seasonal reminders

  • Gearing up for winter pruning? We are currently stocked with Felco and Corona pruners, loppers, pole pruners and folding hand saws. Need to sharpen your tools? We have two to choose from!
  • Need a few snow shovels for your guys this winter? We have two to choose from. Both will move snow from one place to another - with a little help.
  • Bidding some spring jobs? Jeff, Ross and Liz are here to help! Email or fax it over and they'll get a quote back to you pretty darn quick! Also, don't forget to give either office a call to chat about your upcoming spring jobs. Feel free to ask for their ideas or ask them any questions you have - they're here to help!
  • Looking to expand your knowledge and improve your business? Consider taking Mark's class on pesticides! He's a wealth of knowledge and has a love of teaching. See below for details!
  • Need to protect your broadleaf evergreens? You know we have Wilt Pruf and Burlap, right? Come pick some up soon!
  • Did you forgot to buy your deer repellents? Hurry up and get your Bobbex, Repellex and Thiram (don't forget the sticker ClearSpray with that). Just make sure you wait to spray when the temperatures are above 35ºF.
  • It may seem a little early to be thinking about Deer Ticks and Lime Disease, but a little reading now will be very beneficial in controlling this pest before spring gets here. The main thing to remember is: the adult deer tick can be active throughout the winter during periods of mild weather especially if any snow cover melts away. At this time granular products are very effective at controlling these adults hiding in leaf litter and detritus. Click here and look at the top of page 10 for more information from the CT Agricultual Experiment Station.

  • If you need a place to dump your load of clean wood chips, think of us! Our Watertown Yard needs chips and can be dropped during business hours - call ahead 860-945-6588. The Newtown Yard will also be in need of chips, but please call ahead to make arrangements, 203-426-4037. Thanks!

Pesticide Class

Custom Grounds Pest Control for Ornamental and Turf (3a)

We're gearing up for another winter of learning! We're happy to offer the Pesticide License Prep Class this winter as we did two years ago. It's a great way to prepare for the CT DEEPs Pesticide Test so you can start off the 2014 season with the license needed to legally apply pesticides for hire. It's also a good education to help you do your job right! Mark Kokinchak does a great job touching upon the subjects to know for the licensing test.

The class is starting to fill up - Call to register soon!

Evergreen selection in Newtown during Tuesday's snowstorm

While both sales yards currently look more like the previous photo, this is what it was like last May. It's just a reminder that spring will be here before you know it. Until then we'll be here, making sure we're ready for you when your customers start calling! So rest up, enjoy your winter, and get psyched for spring!
