2nd Chance: The Play
What an afternoon!!!! Second Class was First Class. Serra's actors put on a performance that had the audience laughing out loud and delivering poignant awwwws throughout the show. We hope that is how awwwww is spelled.
On the left above is Collette Cruz who produced plays with Adriana Encelan '03 when both were at El Camino. Adrianna is in the middle. Adrianna produces, directs, rehearses etc. etc. etc. Serra's plays. On the right is Dashan Nettles '03 and a lead player in Serra's production of Grease in '02-'03.
Victor Acosta '14, as a part of the rose brigade, presents a rose to his sister, Areli Acosta '17
Along with Collette and Dashan, some of our Rose Brigade participants included Kirk, Vivian and Kyle Bertrand, Victor Acosta '14, parent Greg Floyd and Thomas Stafford, our Marketing and Admissions Director (If you know someone who wants to attend Serra, Mr. Stafford is the man to see ).

Serra, USC and the Poet Laureate
Califonria's New Poet Laureate is Serra Alumnus Dana Gioia '69. Dana has been appointed to a two-year term as California's Poet Laureate.
His career is such that we suggest going online (His Website) (USC) (Wikipedia) and learning more. You might call Dana a Rennaisance man. Before Dana was recognized as one of America's leading poet, he was a vice-president of marketing at General Mills. Dana was appointed to and served as the Chairman of the National Endowment of the Arts from 2003 to 2009. He is currently the Judge Widney Professor of Poetry and Public Culture at USC.
Last February at Dana's invitation, Serra students participated in "The Future of the Catholic Literary Imagination" conference held at USC last February. To view the old newsletter, click this link.

Anybody Who is Anybody Meets At The Grotto
Dominique Gilmore '99 is joined by St. Bernard's alumni Bernard Heath '97 on the right and Bernard McCumbry '00, Serra's Frosh-Soph Counselor and Assistant basketball coach on the left, at the Grotto.
Perhaps, Bernard and Bernard are such remarkable people because Jeff Guzman, Serra's Principal, was the Dean at St. Bernard's when the 2 Bernard's attended.
Dominique and Bernard's son, Jordyn, will be coming to Serra next fall. Dominique has already been volunteering with the Booster's.
Also at the Grotto yesterday was, Jordan Roa, Class of 2030(?). He was found running away from his grandmother.
