Remembering to Give Thanks

In her poem, "Welcome Morning," Anne Sexton writes,

There is joy

in all:

in the hair I brush each morning,

in the Cannon towel, newly washed,

that I rub my body with each morning....

She continues to list the kettle and the coffee, the spoon and the chair and the eggs. Then Sexton adds:

All this is God,

right here in my pea-green house

each morning

and I mean,

though often forget,

to give thanks....

In this week of Thanksgiving, let us not forget. To the left you will find links to two inspring short videos that help me remember.

Unanswered Prayers- by Jan

Garth Brooks, in his song, "Unanswered Prayers," sings of his gratefulness for not receiving what he prayed for:

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers.
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care.
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.

Likewise, here are some reflection I wrote at Thanksgiving in 1988:

I prayed for success, but I'm thankful for the talents God gave me to use.

I prayed for stature, but I'm thankful for a place to stand.

I prayed for good health, but I'm thankful for my doctors and their dedication.

I prayed for an easy life, but I'm thankful for the strength God gave me for daily tasks.

I prayed for strength, but I'm thankful for perseverance.

I prayed for someone to show me the way, but I'm thankful for those who walk with me.

Thank you to all who have walked with us.
