ILLINOIS GOVERNOR SIGNS LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT MINORITY- AND FEMALE- OWNED BUSINESSES
Governor Pat Quinn signed a legislation that will help minority- and female-owned businesses more fairly compete for state-funded construction and business contracts. ILLINOIS BILL 3267 IS NOW THE LAW
WBDC's own Elizabeth Gardner and Eva Brown witnessed Illinois Governor, Pat Quinn, sign Bill 3267 into law on July 30. The new legislation allows the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to offer a revolving loan to fund to Minority, Women and Disadvantaged businesses to finance construction contracts when they are selected as the low bidder on a project. The financing also helps them to obtain surety bonding through the Contractor Empowerment Program. To learn more, please
TREASURY DELAYS EMPLOYER HEALTHCARE INSURANCE MANDATE
The U.S. Department of Treasury announced that enforcement of the employer health insurance mandate will be delayed until 2015. The Affordable Care Act imposes penalties on applicable employers that do not offer minimum essential coverage to full-time employees and dependents.
