June 11  Thornton Creek Packing Day
Thank you in advance to all the parents who will volunteer their time on Saturday, June 11 to help staff with packing up our school. Lots of hands will make the work lighter for sure!

New Family Orientation
On June first the K staff and I will welcome our newly assigned families to Thornton Creek. The orientation will be help in the lunchroom at 7:00 pm.

New School Start and End Time
Remember that Thornton Creek's start and end time will change next fall. The school day will begin at 8:00 am and end at 2:10 pm.

Graduation Ceremony
Thornton Creek will celebrate students moving onto a new school and our graduating 5th grade classes moving on to middle school on June 23rd at 9:50 in our school lunch room. We decided to celebrate on the original last day of the school year in case families had already made travel plans. Come join us on the 23rd and the classroom celebrations to follow.

The Superintendent, Seattle City librarian, and the deputy major will join Ginny Allemann and the Book Thieves for lunch on May 31st to congratulate the Book Thieves once again for their magnificent win in this year's Global Reading Challenge.

Let's Start Packing!
by Susie Bunker - susie.bunker@comcast.net

It is time to come together and get packed for the big move.  It is going to take many hands to get us ready to move to the new building.  Here is how you can help.

Come to one or both packing days
Saturday, June 11 from 9AM-Noon
Teachers in Rooms 1,3,4,8 and 11 will be packing their rooms.  Please watch out for a sign up from your room parent.
If your classroom isn't packing that day, come help pack the Art and Book Rooms.
You can sign up for a shift here
Please note, this is a parent only event.

Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
Teachers in rooms 1,3,4,9,11,14 and 17 will be on site packing.  Please watch out for a sign up from your room parent.

If your classroom isn't packing that day (or your room has lots of volunteers), please come help pack the Gym, Kristina's portable, and Room 6. You can sign up for a shift here

We will provide playground supervision this day, but you must sign up here so we know how many high school babysitters to have on hand.  Please note, that kids will not be assisting in the packing of classrooms unless your teacher informs you otherwise.  Please sign up here if you would like to have your child supervised on the playground.

Some important notes
  • Teachers are so busy right now and may not have had a chance to choose a packing day.  Even if your classroom isn't listed above, please keep an eye out for word from your room parent.
  • While the district is assisting with the packing of the portables, your teachers still may want some assistance sorting and planning.  Also keep an eye out for word from them.
If you know of any Thornton Creek alumni (entering grade 7 and higher) that would like to help with this project, please have them contact me (susie.bunker@comcast.net). This is a great opportunity for service hours.

Thanks to everyone for supporting our community in this big endeavor.
May Bike Challenge
by Amanda Thornwell - thornewell@hotmail.com

May Biking Challenge is proceeding well.   More data have been tabulated and it looks like the first class to meet the challenge of 6000 minutes or 20 riders is
P6-Treehouse.

The first pizza party goes to P6-Treehouse for achieving 7231 minutes with 19 riders.   Congratulations to all the students in P6 who worked very hard to to meet the challenge.

Several classes (such as room 14, P4, 9, and 2) are very close to meeting the challenge and winning the pizza party. There are some fun events planned to help all classes meet this goal.

1.  BIKE TO SCHOOL on Tuesday May 31st and receive a popsicle or juice pack.   Join the bike trains or just ride in.

2.  Ride to MOD pizza at Lake Forest Park Town Center

When:  after-school, Tuesday May 31st.   Meet at the bike racks
Where:  from school, to MOD pizza at Lake Forest Park Town Center (and back)
Why:   to get pizza, of course
Who:   any Thornton Creek affiliated person can participate.   Student riders require adult supervision.   Contact Amanda for details or to make other arrangements.

MOD pizza menu can be found here

Don't forget to log child's your time.  Each rider receives at least one spoke card.  Logging can be done at the school's web site under the May Bike Challenge announcement or here or  (or here for mobile devices).   Last year some kids got upset for not receiving prizes because their times were not logged.

All classroom worksheets will be picked up and processed on Wednesday June 1st.  Online logging will close on June 2nd.
