Welcome to the 1st Parent-Group Sponsored Thornton Creek Read-A-Thon!*
by Erin Nelson, and Deb Glazer Read-a-thon Co-Chairs

Our first ever Thornton Creek READ-A-THON is a new and exciting fundraiser for students. Teachers and parents have been working hard to kick off this new tradition. We had a few bumps with scheduling earlier this year, but we are ready to go! On Friday, November 13th, students will be introduced to the READ-A-THON with an all school assembly. Teachers LaChrista and Mim will perform a hilarious dramatic read aloud to build excitement and remind classmates how reading can be fun!! The students set realistic reading goals based on age and developmental ability, and then enjoy themselves as they read their way to their own personal "best ". All you need to do to support your school is help the kids gather pledges and encourage reading. The kids have a blast while raising money for their school. Parents will support their children to meet their reading goals and, like the Walk-A-Thon, gather pledges from family, friends, and relatives to support this vital fundraiser. An average of $90 per student - just $3.00 per day -- will get us to our $38,000 goal. We hope each family will participate in the Read-A-Thon to the best of their abilities -- every little bit helps!

Pledge sheets, calendars, and instructions were sent home with students, and for additional Read-A-Thon pledge sheets click here. The kids are ready to read, so let's raise some money for our school!

If you have any questions, please contact either Erin Nelson or Deb Glazer. Thank you very much for your help!

* Please note this is a parent-group sponsored fundraising event.
Everything You Need to Know About the Read-a-Thon

Here is how it works:

  • Students may start collecting pledges now.  Pledge sheets went home today.  If you need additional sheets please stop by the office and pick one up from the Read-A-Thon folder next to the collection bin.  Additional pledge sheets are also available here.  Additional reading calendars are located here.
  • Pledges may be made by anyone (relatives, neighbors, friends, etc.). However, students may not ask teachers, the principal or other school staff.
  • Ask donors if there is a matching donation program at their place of work. This is a great way to double your donations.
  • Students may collect pledge money in advance.
  • Keep track of the minutes you read on the calendar provided.  Post a sticker for every 30 minutes that you read each day.
  • You will be asked to provide a weekly update of hours read so we can keep track of progress toward our school-wide goal. If you need help filling out the form, ask a buddy. Electronic devices are available at school to do this or you can ask a parent or guardian to help at home. Click here.
  • Please return all pledges to school by January 7th. You can return any pledges to school anytime before the end of the Read-A-Thon. Please make checks out to "Thornton Creek Parent Group/Read-A-Thon", and return to the office or in kid mail.
  • If you wish to contribute on-line via PayPal, please click here.  Please include the name of your child and/ or classroom.
