First Day Packet!
We are at 25% returned!  Keep them coming!  They are also on the TC website, and the best news is they autofill!  Start filling one in and they all fill in!  Just print, sign and return!  Every new family was given a paper packet.  We'll start sending reminders pretty soon.  Parents should not volunteer until their paperwork is in.

Advanced Learning Applications are an online item this year!
October 8th deadline
Instructions are on the Seattle Public School Website.  Go to: http://www.seattleschools.org/

It was great to see so many faces at Back to School Night! I am truly excited for the year in front of us. Together, we can do great things!

I'd like to highlight a few volunteer needs this week. There are many, many more but these are a few of our top priorities.

1.  Site Council Secretary: this is a modest time commitment but a crucial role. The secretary attends meetings, takes minutes, submits them for review and publishes approved minutes to our website.

2.  Auction Co-Chair: I'd like to express tremendous gratitude to Lissa Armato for volunteering to Chair our auction again this year. With her at the helm the Co-Chair job will be a manageable task. Please consider this very important role.

3. Enrichment: A team of parents loosely formed over the summer to explore ways to make our Enrichment program a more viable, independent program. We need more voices.  If Enrichment is important to you, please consider participating in the process that will be ongoing this fall.

5. Communications Committee: We could use additional assistance on the web editor team, as well as more back-up help with the newsletter team. This is work that can be done from home, mostly on your schedule.

4.  We need a parent to arrange for usage permits for all activities taking place on school property outside of the school day. This is a simple process that can be done from home. This is another crucial task with a minimal time commitment.

Please contact me with any questions about these volunteer roles and I will connect you to the appropriate person.

I'd also like to offer a friendly reminder to please enter your family information for the student directory / classroom lists. We currently have about a 70% return. These will be valuable communication tools as we move forward into the school year.

Thank you!

Spencer Shaw Lecture at UW iSchool.
This year's Spencer Shaw lecturer will be Kadir Nelson  (We are the Ship, Henry's Freedom Box, I Have a Dream, among others)! The event is Thursday, October 22 at Kane Hall. Hope to see you there!

Thank you library volunteers!
I have super volunteers in the library. The mornings are covered, but I am still searching for a couple of people who could come in every couple of weeks (preferably on Tuesday afternoons, but any day after school is fine) to wash tables and dust computers and shelf tops. I am also looking for a couple of people to head up the fall book fair at University Book Store. It's a four day event and we need someone to work with UBS and plan a variety of in-store events and activities. Please let me know if you are interested or if you'd like to be on the "on call" volunteer list for simple projects.

LAST CALL FOR STUDENT AND FAMILY DIRECTORY!!
by Amanda Thornewell - thornewell@hotmail.com

If you haven't already done so, now is your chance to take just 30 seconds to fill out the online form. 3 easy options:
The gathered data will be used to create classroom lists and contact information for Thornton Creek family-to-family communication. Seattle School District does not provide student/family contact information to other students and their families.  There is an option within the form to have information only sent to the teacher, and not given to the directory.

This is a Thornton Creek Parent Group project.
Thank you!
