Legislative WRPA - Current Events
Regular Session has ended. The 30-Day Special Session formally begins 9 a.m. Monday, May 13. Governor's proclamation
WRPA Action Alert In Progress: It's time to weigh in with your legislators on these three key 'asks': 1) Hold up to $75.5 million for WWRP - or at least the $70 million in the House; 2) hold a $23.7 million general fund assistance level for State Parks; and 3) hold the $5.88 million for Youth Athletic Facilities that is in the Senate Budget. Remember your communication with your lawmakers can make all the difference at a time like this! Talking points
ESHB 1652 - The bill mandating that all GMA impact fees be deferred to occupancy/closing: WRPA is participating on a group veto request letter from Associations representing cities, schools, fire fighters/chiefs, parks and several environmental organizations which is scheduled to be sent to the Governor today. The final group version will be posted on the WRPA website as soon as its available.

WRPA Strategic Planning News
The work plan for the "WRPA Strategic Plan Update" is that it will be a process that will take place over the course of a year or more. We plan to review all WRPA service and operations as part of the update. The process will include the entire WRPA executive board as well as frequent outreach to our members. On The Move
John Hodgson, past president WRPA (1997) announces his retirement for May 31st. Also the chief administrative officer (CAO) of the sixth largest city in Washington, John has spent 33 years in municipal government service, seven as the city's CAO. Hodgson's long tenure in municipal government began as a youth recreation specialist in 1980 with Vancouver Washington Parks and Recreation Department where he held numerous supervisory positions. Boating Infrastructure Grants
The Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is accepting applications for the Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program. BIG funds are given to public and private facility operators across the state for development of boating facilities for guest recreational boats 26 feet and larger. The first round of applications are due to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in early May, so RCO has established an expedited schedule for applicants who need funding this fall. More |
